Job overview

We are looking for a highly motivated individual to join the Cancer Team within the Cancer Network Care Group. The main duties of this post are to include tracking of the cancer waiting times PTL, undertake data collection, to enable the provision of good quality cancer data for national, regional, and local requirements. It is essential that you are highly organised and able to work on your own initiative as well as part of a team.

The post holder will be responsible for supporting with the collection of cancer waiting times data requirements. Excellent communication skills at all levels are essential for this role along with the ability to prioritise work and meet deadlines. Experience of Microsoft Office or a relevant computer qualification is required, and proficiency in Word and Excel is essential. The ideal candidate will have an understanding of data capture processes, and a working knowledge of computerised patient administration systems/patient activity and other in house systems. Familiarity with medical terminology would be a distinct advantage.

Main duties of the job

The postholder will be responsible for tracking patients and providing up-to-date information as they progress through the cancer care pathway, liaising closely with core services to ensure patients meet National Cancer Waiting Times Standards. They must be highly organised, paying close attention to detail and they will need to be able to both work in conjunction with clinical teams and on their own initiative.

The postholder will be responsible for supporting with capturing accurate, complete and timely patient data to support the submission of national cancer waiting times uploads.

The postholder will be required to work across a variety of tumour sites to ensure all relevant cases are collected within strict deadlines.

The postholder will be required to develop and maintain a good working relationship with all staff and liaise closely with clinicians, nursing staff, Clinical Administrative Support Team and patient administration staff at all levels throughout the Trust. The postholder must have excellent communication skills, be organised, and pay close attention to detail.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

Communicate clearly, concisely with compassion

Establish and maintain effective working relationships with clinicians and managers and all other staff working internally and externally to the Group

Act as a key contact for communication with your team Ensure you remain compliant with all current legislation Accurate data entry skills

Ability to share knowledge with colleagues

Demonstrate excellent communication skills including written and accurate data entry Actively participate in team briefings

Good knowledge of the Group Access Policy, Cancer Waiting Time targets and application of the rules to clinical pathways

Good knowledge of Microsoft Office applications including Outlook, Excel and Word

Ability to identify incorrect or incomplete transactions and amend or correct where appropriate Good organisational skills

Be able to escalate incidents in a timely way to your line manager

Use judgement when dealing with enquiries, seeking support and guidance as necessary; escalating to line manager where appropriate

Be able to interrogate systems to find facts

Plan and organise own time and prioritise own workload around deadlines, know when to escalate issues to line manager.

Manage own diary and that of others where appropriate Ability to maintain accurate records

Knowledge, Training & Experience

Essential criteria

1. Experience of using electronic systems & Experience of Microsoft Office products
2. Experience of providing a service to patients or customers

Desirable criteria

3. Understanding and experience of cancer clinical pathways
4. Knowledge of working within the General Data Protection Regulations 2018

Education and Qualifications

Essential criteria

5. Good standard of general education to GCSE level or equivalent, including Maths and English Language.
6. Previous Administration background

7. Previous Administration experience NVQ Level 2 in administration
8. RSA 3 word processing or equivalent and or Secretarial background

Communication and Interpersonal skills
