Payroll Assistant
Location: Sutton Coldfield
Contract: Full-Time, Permanent, 38.75 hours per week
Salary: £26,650

We're looking for a Payroll Assistant to support the Payroll Manager and our outsourced payroll provider with the day-to-day processing of payroll, reconciliations, and employee queries. The Role
As a Payroll Assistant, you'll play a key role in ensuring our payroll runs smoothly, accurately, and on time. You'll be the first point of contact for payroll queries, support statutory and pension processes, and help maintain strong internal controls through checks, audits, and reconciliations.
You'll work closely with the Payroll Manager, HR colleagues, and operational teams to ensure employees receive the right information and support.
Key Responsibilities Support day-to-day payroll processing and procedures
Apply knowledge of statutory payroll regulations
Assist with pension auto-enrolment and re-enrolment requirements
Act as the first point of contact for payroll queries via phone and email
Liaise with the Payroll Manager and outsourced payroll provider
Carry out payroll checks and audits in line with process requirements
Manage payroll and sickness processes across multiple sickness schemes
Support full payroll reconciliation activities
Produce intermediate-level reports for key stakeholders
Create local working instructions and process maps for payroll procedures
Participate in quarterly testing of payroll application updates

Knowledge, Skills & Experience
Experience Experience working with multiple sickness schemes, reconciliations, and both salaried and zero-hour contracts
Comfortable working in a dynamic, fast-changing environment
Experience supporting payrolls of 1,000+ employees
Education / Qualifications Ideally CIPP qualified or working towards it
Technical Skills Intermediate Excel skills
Proficient in Microsoft Office applications
Experience with cloud-based Oracle systems (desirable)
General Excellent attention to detail
Ability to work to strict deadlines
