About Us
The Crafty Teller is a vibrant neighbourhood pub in Sherwood, Nottingham. Recently under new management, we're reopening with a fresh vision: a welcoming community hub that offers great drinks, casual dining from breakfast through to dinner, family-friendly events, and a lively social atmosphere.
We're now looking for a trainee pub manager who wants to grow with us and be developed into the future manager of the site. This is a fantastic opportunity for someone who is ambitious, passionate about hospitality, and ready to learn every aspect of pub life.
The Role
As a trainee pub manager, you'll start on a zero-hour contract with flexible shifts — mainly during our busiest times (Friday evenings, Saturdays, and Sunday brunch). Once our kitchen reopens, you will be cross-trained across both bar and kitchen operations, ensuring you gain the skills needed to eventually take on full site management.
You'll be working closely with the owners (who are hands-on and actively part of the team) and will be trained in:
* Customer service & front-of-house management
* Bar operations, stock control & cellar management
* Supporting kitchen service and food operations once reopened
* Staff training, scheduling, and team leadership
* Compliance with health & safety, food hygiene, and licensing regulations
* Assisting wingith events, community initiatives, and promotional activities
What We're Looking For
* Excellent communication skills – friendly, approachable, and confident with guests and colleagues
* Previous pub, bar, or restaurant experience (preferred but not essential — training will be provided)
* Enthusiasm for hospitality, customer care, and community engagement
* A proactive, hands-on approach and willingness to learn and be cross-trained across different areas of the business
* Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and busy trading periods
What We Offer
* A zero-hour contract to start, offering flexibility with shifts
* Full training, including Innside Knowledge management training via Star Pubs
* Cross-training in both bar service and kitchen operations once the kitchen reopens
* A clear pathway to progress into a permanent Site Manager position
* Hands-on support from experienced operators who are passionate about building a community pub
* Staff discounts on food & drinks
* The chance to be part of an exciting new chapter for The Crafty Teller and grow with us long-term
