Main duties of the job
1. To independently perform and report transthoracic echocardiograms on a wide range on inpatients and outpatients.
2. Triaging patient requests and prioritising workload appropriately.
3. Training and supervising student echocardiographers and cardiology registrars
4. Assist in complex echocardiography procedures, such as stress echo, TOE, contrast and bubble studies.

Job responsibilities
5. Independently perform and report echocardiograms in a timely manner on a wide range of inpatients and outpatients.
6. Assist in complex echocardiography procedures, such as stress echo, TOE, contrast and bubble studies.
7. Undertake a number of cardiac diagnostic tests where necessary, including holter monitoring and analysis, exercise tolerance testing and ECGs.
8. Participate in weekly MDT meetings and discuss case studies where relevant.
9. Actively participate in audit and peer review.

10. BSc Clinical Physiology or HNC/MPPM
11. British Society of Echocardiography Adult Accreditation
12. RCCP/AHCS registration
13. ILS certificate
Desirable
14. Postgraduate qualification
15. Assessors qualification
16. SCST part 1 & 2
17. Other relevant Cardiac Physiology accreditation
Knowledge
Essential
18. Demonstrates knowledge within the field of echocardiography, including current guidelines and practice
19. Knowledge of a wide range of procedures and techniques.
20. Awareness of current thinking/issues within the NHS and Diagnostic communities.
21. Knowledge of clinical conditions which may be encountered in area of work.
22. Demonstrates awareness of limits to knowledge base.
23. Demonstrates understanding of accountability
24. Awareness of responsibilities regarding health and safety
25. Knowledge and understanding of reflective practice and continuing professional development.
Experience
Essential
26. At least 3 years working as a Specialist Cardiac Physiologist in echocardiography
27. Experience of more complex echocardiography, including stress echo, transoesophageal echo, contrast & bubble studies.
28. Experience of a range of cardiorespiratory equipment
29. Experience of working single handed or in a small team.
Desirable
30. Experience in paediatric or congenital echocardiography
31. Experience using a range of echo machines from different manufacturers
32. Experience within invasive cardiology

33. Competent IT skills word processing, email, databases.
34. Effective verbal, non-verbal and written communication skills including communicating factual information to patients / carers.
35. Basic risk assessment skills.
36. Demonstrates relevant manual handling skills essential for the role.
