Weare seeking an Occupational Therapy and Physical Therapy Lead to join our Secure ServicesDirectorate Leadership Team based at Langdon Hospital in Dawlish.

The role is dynamic and challenging. As a member of our Secure Services Leadership Team, you will support our Directorate Manager, Clinical Director, Professional Leadsand Senior Nurse Managers in providing high quality care to patients bymaintaining excellent operational standards and building collaborative relationships with stakeholders primarily within the inpatient service but alsothe wider directorate and organisations.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will provide operational and strategic management, plus professional leadership of the Occupational Therapy and Physical Therapy Services, based at Langdon Hospital ensuring that maximum use of resources are available to deliver intervention for our patients and staff.

* Leading the planning, development, delivery and review of Occupational Therapy services within the Secure Directorate
* Providing professional leadership and management support to Occupational Therapy staff or others in conjunction with team managers and professional leads.
* Working within the Secure Directorate senior management team to promote clinical effectiveness, develop and implement national health initiatives and plan, develop and review services accordingly
* To lead on Inpatient specific workstreams, this will include Quality Network for Forensic Mental Health Services (QNFMHS), to support staff wellbeing offer, oversight and coordination of Trauma Risk Management (TRiM) referrals and TRiM Practitionersand Post Incident Debriefs.
* To beinvolved in Inpatient regulatory processes.
* To leadpatient engagement agenda for the Secure Inpatient Service.

Job responsibilities

To provide operational and strategic management plus professional leadership for the Occupational Therapy Service by:

* Leading the planning, development, delivery and review of Occupational Therapy services within the Secure Directorate
* Providing professional leadership and management support to Occupational Therapy staff or others in conjunction with team managers and professional leads.
* Working within the Secure Directorate senior management team to promote clinical effectiveness, develop and implement national health initiatives and plan, develop and review services accordingly

Communication and Working Relationship Skills:

* Ensure effective communication with the Occupational Therapy team, colleagues and other agencies at all levels
* Deal sensitively with highly complex, emotional and sensitive information from patients / service users, their carers, staff groups and other stakeholders, using a variety of communication tools as required
* Establish and participate in communication networks to promote collaborative working, effective performance and delivery of occupational therapy services
* Demonstrate highly developed written, verbal and presentation skills
* Relay key messages between the senior management team and a range of professionals within the Secure Directorate, the wider Trust and external agencies

Analytical and Judgemental Skills:

* Assess and problem solve on a range of highly complex clinical, service delivery, development and clinical governance issues
* Practice effective time management skills to respond to competing priorities effectively
* Reflect and critically appraise own and others performance to drive quality service performance and delivery

Planning and Organisational Skills

* Participate in strategic andoperational planning and service delivery within the Secure Directorate and contribute to that of Devon Partnership NHS Trust as required
* Work as part of the senior management team to plan, manage and sustain an effective work force within the Occupational Therapy service and the wider service
* Ensure full participation in Devon Partnership NHS Trust Occupational Therapy meetings
* Organise and convene meetings and groups to plan, implement and sustain service developments and quality

Responsibility for Patient/Client Care, Treatment and Therapy

* Be assured that Occupational Therapy interventions follow best practice, locally agreed pathways and are evidenced based
* Apply highly specialist knowledge and skills to ensure the needs of those with challenging behaviour/distress and profound and complex needs are met
* Contribute to/lead relevant service user planning and review meetings
* Ensure records are completed according to DPT policy and protocol
* Be assured that Occupational Therapy practice is undertaken according to standards set out by the Health Care Professions Council and the Royal College of Occupational Therapy
* Ensure the patient voice is heard in therapy interventions and service delivery

Responsibility for Policy and Service Development Implementation

* Lead on projects and initiatives within the Secure Directorate and Devon Partnership NHS Trust
* Understand and implement national policy, guidance and local developments to support delivery of services in line with local service priorities and finance
* Support the continuing professional development needs of Occupational Therapy staff according to clinical and business priorities and professional standards
* Ensure Occupational Therapy student practice placements within the Secure Directorate are coordinated and monitored
* Ensure access to appropriate professional and managerial supervision and continuing professional development for self and Occupational Therapy staff, extending knowledge and skills of practice
* Ensure the implementation of Devon Partnership NHS Trust clinical and non-clinical policies
* Ensure coordination and management of TRiM referrals.

Person Specification


Experience

* Significant post qualification practice in a related field
* Highly developed skills in clinical assessment, intervention and evaluation
* Previous professional and management leadership roles
* Experience of working with clients and colleagues in highly stressful situations
* Experience of working with people with communication difficulties


Knowledge

* Highly developed knowledge of theory and practice of Occupational Therapy interventions with people with a serious mental illness with significant levels of distress, challenging behaviour, profound and complex conditions and associated co-morbidity
* Knowledge and understanding of national guidance and best practice, evidence base, policy and legislation relevant to this client group and delivery of health services to them
* Working understanding of multi-agency working across health, social care and voluntary and independent sectors
* Knowledge of the TRiM assessment / TRiM processes


Qualifications

* Diploma/degree in Occupational Therapy
* Health and Care Professions Council registration
* Qualifications/post graduate training in specialist assessment and treatment approaches for people with a serious mental illness
* Evidence of continued professional development
* IT Skills including multimedia and smart technology
* Management or leadership qualification
* Membership of the Royal College of Occupational Therapists and associated special interest groups
