Overview
We are seeking a caring and enthusiastic support worker for a part time role at Holtwood Community Farm. The successful applicant will need to be adaptable, hardworking and enable our service users to maximize their abilities. This position involves supporting adults with learning disabilities, Autism and mental health problems to undertake a variety of tasks on our working smallholding. Care experience would be beneficial although training will be provided.
Responsibilities
* Support of clients to access the farm facilities.
* One to one & group support and supervision of service users as required including break and lunch times.
* Assist people in tasks to enable maximum participation possible for each individual, subject to their needs.
* To encourage and promote the good use and enjoyment of the facilities by all attending.
* To be mindful of Health and Safety at all times.
* To assist in tasks on the farm (Animal and Horticultural included) for maximum benefit of services users.
* Provide holiday and weekend cover by agreement including assisting at Open days (twice a year);
* Any other task deemed necessary to ensure the smooth running of the business.
Requirements
* Previous experience in working with adults with learning disabilities and/or autism is highly desirable.
* Knowledge of first aid practices is beneficial for ensuring client safety.
* Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to build rapport with clients.
* Some knowledge of horticulture and/or animal care would be advantageous but not essential.
* A clean driving license and own vehicle (the farm is not on a bus or train route ).
* A willingness to undergo training.
* The ability to work outside in sometimes adverse conditions. This role is based on the farm and as such the candidate needs to be able to cope with manual work and weather extremes.
