Job Description
We are working with a leading civil engineering contractor with a regional base in South Wales. Due to year-on-year growth and an extremely healthy pipeline of secured work, they have an opportunity for a Senior Estimator within their preconstruction team. The company works across water, highways, environmental & energy and has secured multiple long-term frameworks, and sizeable capital schemes valued up to £30.M.
As a Senior Estimator, you will report directly to the Preconstruction Manager, and play a key role in securing future projects as set out below:
Duties and responsibilities include:
Project Evaluation:
* Review project drawings, contracts, and specifications to understand scope, materials, and requirements.
* Collaborate with project managers, engineers, and designers to gather essential project information.
Cost Estimation:
* Calculate and prepare detailed cost estimates for labour, materials, equipment, and subcontractors.
* Utilise cost databases, historical data, and industry benchmarks for accuracy.
* Consider factors like permits, site conditions, and safety regulations in cost calculations.
Budget Management:
* Collaborate with the project team to establish and monitor project budgets.
* Identify potential cost-saving measures and value engineering opportunities.
* Attend monthly CVR meetings for feedback on current projects.
Bid Preparation:
* Prepare comprehensive bid packages, including cost breakdowns, schedules, and proposal documents for clients and subcontractors.
* Attend bid meetings and negotiate with subcontractors and suppliers to secure competitive pricing.
* Complete Pre-Qualification Questionnaires (PPQ) and Invitation to Tender (ITT).
* Stay current with industry standards and regulations affecting civil engineering projects.
* Ensure that all cost estimates and project proposals comply with legal and regulatory requirements.
Essential Skills and Experience:
* Strong understanding of civil engineering
* Experience in producing winning bids for projects ranging from £500k to £10m.
* Strong writing and communication skills.
* Organized with a keen eye for detail.
* Ability to multitask and support multiple teams in various remote locations.
* Capable of working independently on bids or as part of a larger team.
* Good contractual understanding, mainly NEC 3 and NEC 4.
* Experience in Bid Strategy and Risk Costing..
* Several years of experience in civil engineering, with a focus on cost estimation.
* Strong knowledge of construction methods, materials, and industry practices.
* Proficiency in using construction estimating software and spreadsheet applications, including Microsoft Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
