About Your Team
At Centrica Business Solutions we help partners balance planet and profit by building, operating and maintaining large‑scale energy assets such as Solar PV, Combined Heat and Power, and battery storage. We’re transforming the UK’s energy landscape with a portfolio of new grid‑scale solar farms and battery storage assets.
Role Overview
We’re looking for a Combined Heat and Power (CHP) Engineer to work across diverse sites – universities, leisure centres, hospitals, hotels, and Powergen sites – to support the electrical grid.
Key Responsibilities
 * Receive daily job emails and attend services, breakdowns, part replacements, or engine rebuilds.
 * Manage your diary, including oil store drops, collections, and part pickups from the designated collection box.
 * Operate, monitor, and maintain utilities including HVAC, WFI, purified water, and process equipment.
 * Troubleshoot and repair mechanical and electrical systems in line with SOPs and safety policies.
 * Maintain and secure spare parts inventory and recommend tools or equipment to improve efficiency.
 * Support engineers in developing methods to improve facility processes.
Key Skills & Experience
 * Self‑motivated with a strong eye for detail.
 * Comfortable working independently or as part of a team.
 * Strong customer/client communication skills.
 * Ambitious and eager to progress your career.
Minimum Requirements
 * Mechanical craft qualification or higher (C&G, NVQ, ONC, HNC).
 * Experience in field service roles on reciprocating engines or generators.
 * Ability to strip and repair engines to component level.
 * Knowledge of rotating equipment.
 * Strong problem‑solving ability.
 * Good IT skills.
 * Strong health & safety awareness.
 * Excellent housekeeping standards.
 * Full UK driver’s licence (no more than 6 points).
Desirable Experience
 * Experience on CHP plants or generators.
 * Vehicle maintenance.
 * Experience with engines such as MTU, CAT, Perkins, MAN, Mercedes, MWM.
Package
 * Base salary: £38,589 + London allowance (£4,160‑£6,240 depending on location).
 * OTE: Over £50,000.
 * Bonus system (10‑25% of base salary).
 * Overtime paid at 150%.
 * On‑call payment (£400 a week before callout, calls out paid @150%).
 * 25 days holidays per annum + 8 bank holidays.
 * Company vehicle, contributory pension, benefit package linked to pension.
 * Full company uniform, laptop & mobile phone.
 * Share option scheme.
Location & Travel
North London / Cambridge / Chelmsford / Luton / Watford. The team typically works north of the River Thames, with jobs reaching as far as Cromer and Peterborough. Daily travel can be high, but the rewards are worth it.
