Offer description

A Vacancy at West Hertfordshire Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust.

We have a Band 6 vacancy in the Woodland Neonatal Unit, Watford General Hospital.

The Woodland Neonatal Unit is a busy local neonatal unit (LNU) within the East of England Neonatal network.

The unit admits babies requiring intensive care, high dependency, and special care. In addition, we manage a 6-bedded Transitional Care Unit in the postnatal ward.

We are committed to providing high-quality, evidence-based practice to meet the needs of parents and babies, incorporating family-centered care.

The post holder should have expertise in working with complex cases that require intensive support and possess excellent clinical knowledge.

The successful applicant will work in a highly autonomous manner, appropriately managing clinical risk during practice while consulting with other professionals for guidance.

The role requires experience, knowledge, and skills of working in a neonatal unit at a senior level. Previous Band 6 or management experience is desirable.

The successful candidate will lead and coordinate shifts, work well independently and within a team, and support junior staff and pre-registration student nurses.

With a new hospital planned for Watford and updates underway at St Albans City Hospital, this is an exciting time to join us.

We are building on the success of our award-winning virtual hospital and re-imagining models of care, working closely with partners and leveraging advances in digital healthcare.

Staff wellbeing and development are priorities at our Trust, as is innovation in improving clinical care, outcomes, and patient experience.

Our vision is "Excellent patient care, together," and our values are to be empowered, compassionate, professional, and inclusive. These reflect the balance of individual and collective responsibilities.

We offer a variety of flexible working options to support work-life balance. For more information, visit: https://www.westhertshospitals.nhs.uk/flexibleworking/

If you have a disability or long-term health condition and require support or guidance, please contact: westherts.recruitment@nhs.net

If you are a Service Leaver, Veteran, Military Reserve, Cadet Force Adult Volunteer, or partner/spouse of those serving, please tick "Member of the Armed Forces Community" on the application form.

We reserve the right to close this advert early due to high volume of applications. Please apply promptly to avoid disappointment.

If you do not hear within 3 weeks, please assume you have been unsuccessful.

The post holder will:

1. Be responsible for assessing care needs, developing, implementing, and evaluating care programs independently.
2. Take charge of the Neonatal unit regularly, acting as shift coordinator and undertaking designated management roles.
3. Actively participate in practice development and foster a learning environment.
4. Provide clinical, educational, and emotional support to parents/carers.
5. Provide clear clinical leadership to staff, deputising for the Senior Sister/Charge Nurse in her/his absence.
