Job summary

An exciting new role has been established as part of the colposcopy service at Barnsley Hospital for a Band 6 Trainee Nurse Colposcopist.

This role is to undertake a training programme and the outcome will be that the successful candidate becomes a Band 7 Clinical Nurse Specialist and progresses to a Band 8a that takes on the role as the Cervical Screening Provider Lead for the Trust. The Job Descriptions for these roles will be shared at interview.

The successful candidate for the role will be supported to complete (if not done already), the British Society for Colposcopy and Cervical Pathology (BSCCP) training programme and the North of England Pathology and Screening Education Centre (NEPSEC) Cervical Sample Taker Initial Training course (that must be completed within a 9-month period from commencement).

Main duties of the job

The Colposcopy Service at Barnsley is highly regarded and provides a quality service for patients in Barnsley. The colposcopy team is made up of four consultants, one specialist and one colposcopy nurse specialist.

Key Responsibilities:

Undertake the required training to eventually become a Colposcopy Clinical Nurse Specialist and the Cervical Screening Provider Lead for the trust

Learn to lead and coordinate the colposcopy service, ensuring seamless and high-quality patient care

Maintain adherence to national standards for patient safety and clinical practice, including preparing and reporting on national audits and reports

Develop the skills to collaborate with the whole Colposcopy team to support the development and delivery of the cervical screening service, aligning with NHS England Service specifications

Develop the knowledge and skills to provide senior clinical leadership, expert advice, and ongoing support to the nursing team and the broader multi-professional team, facilitating the delivery of safe, compassionate, and effective care
