Description
Priory Hospital Preston is looking to recruit a Chef to join the team. This is a full time role of 37.5 hours.
Based in Bartle, near Preston, Priory Hospital Preston is a 50-bedded mental health hospital, offering an extensive range of services, delivered across four wards. We can support adult males and females with acute mental health needs and eating disorders, and specialise in the management and treatment of these conditions. Priory’s acute services aim to allow more people to be treated closer to home and we support the NHS to repatriate out-of-area patients back to local areas.
What you'll be doing
You’ll be part of a dedicated and compassionate team, all working together to ensure the smooth running of the hospital and to support the wellbeing of our patients. While your role doesn’t involve providing direct care, your contribution is vital in helping to maintain a safe, comfortable, and welcoming environment for everyone. Whether you're assisting with day-to-day operations, keeping things organised, or ensuring our spaces are well looked after, your support plays an important part in creating a positive experience for those who live and work here.
* Undertakes the planning, preparation and cooking of meals, taking account of any special requests or dietary requirements within the unit.
* Ensuring operational standards comply with the company’s Food Safety policies and guidelines and statutory regulations.
* Takes full shift responsibility for the catering operation (in the absence of the Head Chef).
* Ensures the cost-effective and efficient control of stock including placing orders for food products and the checking/reconciliation of deliveries.
* Monitors and adapts food production ensuring that there is a minimum amount of wasted food.

What you'll bring to the role

The ideal candidate will be numerate, literate, and hold an NVQ Level 2 qualification or equivalent, along with a basic qualification in food hygiene. They should be capable of organising and prioritising their own workload within established procedures and possess excellent communication and negotiation skills. The role requires the ability to monitor costs, liaise effectively with suppliers, and demonstrate strong organisation and time management abilities. Knowledge of specialised diets, such as those related to dysphagia or allergens, may also be necessary. First-class customer service skills are essential to ensure high standards of service delivery.
