Overview
We are looking for an experienced General Manager to lead our team across the Mountbatten centre, the city's flagship leisure and sports centre, as well as Portsmouth Gymnastics Centre, Portsmouth Tennis Club and Charter Community Centre. You will lead, coach, and support a team of heads of departments who in turn manage colleagues across a range of areas, including operations, health and wellbeing, sales, recreation, hospitality, coaching and junior activities across all four sites.
We are one of the UK's leading leisure and event venue operators – a registered charity and social enterprise. Our geographical reach spans multiple venues, leisure centres and attractions across Portsmouth, Southampton, Croydon and the BCP region with millions of visits per year. Our organisational and charitable purpose is to generate participation through the provision of leisure facilities to encourage active communities, improved health and wellbeing; to attract higher audiences through diverse cultural and artistic events; and to provide greater economic and social benefit by hosting major conferences, exhibitions and events.
The Mountbatten Centre is located in the heart of Hilsea and offers a large, well‑equipped gym, a 50 metre swimming pool, group exercise classes, and various health and wellbeing services. The Portsmouth Tennis Club and Portsmouth Gymnastic Centre are located next door to the Mountbatten Centre, and Charter Community Centre is in Portsmouth's university district, offering swimming, gym and sports facilities. Responsibilities
* Attend partnership meetings with Portsmouth City Council and submit reports and financial information on time.
* Lead by example, coach, inspire and empower your team to outperform against all metrics.
* Have a strong focus on recruitment, colleague training and internal development.
* Consistently deliver great experiences for customers on every visit.
* Deliver the highest levels of operational excellence and ensure compliance with health and safety.
* Continually encourage and deliver innovation within service and business plans.
* Write and prepare regular reports and analysis for both internal and external stakeholders.
* Work a combination of shifts during the week and be available to work some weekends.
Qualifications
* Commercial acumen with experience of managing P&L budgets up to 1.5 million pounds turnover.
* Robust business planning knowledge and management of performance through KPIs.
* Inspirational leadership and coaching experience managing a large team of colleagues.
* Commercially astute with a strong background driving high volumes of sales and key performance indicators.
* Possess a comprehensive knowledge and understanding of health and safety.
* A professional management qualification or equivalent.
