We are seeking an experienced and proactive Operations Manager to lead the school’s non-teaching operations and ensure smooth, efficient day-to-day running. You will line manage non-educational support staff, overseeing recruitment, induction, appraisal and performance management, and putting clear systems of accountability in place. Working closely with the Headteacher and SLT, you will oversee the whole-school administrative function and develop effective systems that support teaching and learning.
The role includes maintaining and improving operational and finance-related ICT systems (e.g. MIS, asset management and data returns), ensuring statutory returns (DfE/LA/census) are accurate and submitted on time, and coordinating annual “moving up” processes on the MIS. You will manage the full employee lifecycle, including onboarding, contracts, payroll/pensions administration, leavers, DBS and pre-employment checks, references and medical clearances. You will also monitor staff absence in line with policy and coordinate CPD bookings, ensuring compliance with safer recruitment, equality and safeguarding requirements.
As Health & Safety Coordinator, you will implement and review H&S and critical incident policies, lead risk assessments and follow-up actions, and ensure staff receive appropriate training and guidance—promoting a strong culture of safety and wellbeing. You will also manage school lettings, including scheduling, contracts and compliance, promoting community use of facilities and maximising income while meeting insurance and safeguarding requirements.
You will attend SLT and Governing Body/Committee meetings as required, providing advice on staffing, premises, health & safety and operational matters, and supporting longer-term planning aligned to the School Improvement Plan. The Operations Manager will work collaboratively with the office team and provide professional support to the Headteacher when needed, alongside contributing to reception/admin cover.
