The role
Blackfield Associates is supporting a leading organisation in the recruitment of an experienced Technical Project Manager for an initial 12-month contract, with the possibility of extension.
This is an exciting opportunity for a project manager with a strong technical background to lead complex technology initiatives within a scientific and research-focused environment, working closely with both technical teams and business stakeholders to deliver critical projects.
As a Technical Project Manager, you will be responsible for leading the delivery of technology-driven projects, ensuring they are completed on time, within budget, and to the required quality standards. You will act as the key link between technical teams and business stakeholders, translating requirements into successful project outcomes.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage multiple technical projects through the full project lifecycle.
- Lead software, infrastructure, and system deployment initiatives from planning through to go-live.
- Coordinate system upgrades, replacements, migrations, and decommissioning activities.
- Develop and maintain project plans, schedules, budgets, and risk registers.
- Identify, manage, and mitigate project risks and issues.
- Facilitate communication between technical teams and non-technical stakeholders.
- Provide regular project status updates and reporting to stakeholders and sponsors.
- Collaborate with security, compliance, and governance teams to ensure adherence to organisational requirements.
- Maintain project documentation and operational handover materials.
- Drive process improvements and identify opportunities for automation and operational efficiencies.
- Provide hands-on support when required during periods of increased demand.
Required Skills & Experience
- Minimum 5 years' experience in IT infrastructure, systems integration, or related technical environments.
- Minimum 3 years' experience in project management roles delivering technical projects.
- Strong understanding of project management methodologies and best practices.
- Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills.
- Ability to explain complex technical concepts to non-technical audiences.
- Proven experience managing project risks, dependencies, and delivery timelines.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
Qualifications
- HNC, HND, degree, or equivalent qualification in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related discipline.
- Relevant project management certifications (e.g., PRINCE2, PMP, Agile) would be advantageous.
