Offer description

A supportive and community-centred 11–18 secondary school in Bridlington, East Yorkshire is seeking to appoint an enthusiastic Early Career Teacher of Geography to join its Humanities faculty from January 2026. This is a full-time, permanent opportunity designed specifically for an ECT who wants to develop their classroom practice within a calm, well-structured and genuinely nurturing environment. The school has a strong reputation for supporting early career teachers and prides itself on providing clear systems, consistent routines and experienced mentoring that allow new teachers to build confidence steadily and sustainably. The Role You will teach Geography across Key Stages 3 and 4, following a well-sequenced curriculum that balances physical and human geography while developing key geographical skills. Your teaching timetable will reflect your ECT status, with a reduced allocation and protected time built in for mentoring, professional development and planning. At Key Stage 3, students explore topics such as coastal landscapes, weather and climate, population change and sustainability — all particularly relevant to the school’s coastal location. Lessons focus on developing map skills, data interpretation and geographical enquiry, with clear modelling and guided practice to support learners of all abilities. At GCSE, the department places strong emphasis on helping students apply case studies confidently, structure extended written responses and interpret geographical data accurately. ECTs are supported through shared resources, model answers and collaborative planning sessions, ensuring expectations are clear and manageable. ECT Support and Induction The school offers a robust and personalised ECT induction programme that prioritises professional growth and wellbeing. You will be paired with an experienced Geography specialist who understands the challenges of early career teaching and provides regular, practical guidance. Support includes: A reduced teaching timetable in line with ECT entitlements Weekly mentor meetings focused on classroom strategies and subject pedagogy Regular lesson observations with developmental feedback Structured CPD aligned to the Early Career Framework Protected time for reflection, planning and professional learning The school’s approach is supportive rather than performative, allowing ECTs to develop confidence without unnecessary pressure. The Geography Department The Geography department is a friendly and collaborative team within the wider Humanities faculty. Schemes of work are well established and centrally stored, meaning ECTs are not expected to plan from scratch. Department meetings focus on curriculum development, assessment strategies and sharing effective practice. Colleagues are approachable and willing to offer advice, resources and reassurance, creating a positive environment for early career teachers. Fieldwork is approached realistically and meaningfully. Local fieldwork opportunities linked to the coastal environment are used thoughtfully to support curriculum content, with full guidance and support provided for ECTs involved in trips. The School This is a Good school with a strong local reputation for its inclusive ethos, calm classrooms and positive relationships between staff and students. The school serves a mixed community and places high value on consistency, fairness and mutual respect. Behaviour systems are clear and consistently applied, providing ECTs with the structure and support they need to establish strong classroom routines. Senior leaders are visible and approachable, and new staff feel comfortable seeking support when needed. Pastoral care is well organised and genuinely embedded. Tutors, heads of year and pastoral teams work closely together, ensuring teachers are well supported in managing student wellbeing. Facilities and Learning Environment The Humanities department is based in a dedicated area of the school, with classrooms designed to support discussion, explanation and extended writing. Teaching spaces are well maintained and equipped with interactive screens and visualisers to support modelling and geographical skills development. Shared digital resources — including maps, data sets and assessment materials — are easily accessible, helping ECTs plan efficiently and focus on high-quality lesson delivery. The wider school environment is calm and orderly, with clear routines that support both staff and students. Professional Development and Career Growth Professional development is a genuine priority. In addition to ECT-specific training, you will have access to whole-school CPD and subject-focused development opportunities designed to deepen your understanding of geography pedagogy and curriculum design. As you grow in confidence, there are opportunities to: Contribute to curriculum refinement Engage with local subject networks Support enrichment activities at a manageable pace The school is committed to developing teachers for the long term, ensuring progression is supportive rather than rushed. Workload and Wellbeing The school takes a realistic and thoughtful approach to workload. Marking policies are proportionate and focused on impact, and data collection is purposeful and limited. Leadership regularly seeks feedback from ECTs and adapts systems where necessary to support staff wellbeing. This has helped create a positive working culture with strong retention of early career teachers. The Ideal Candidate This role would suit someone who: Holds QTS (or will hold QTS by January 2026) Is an Early Career Teacher of Geography Has strong subject knowledge and enthusiasm for the subject Is reflective, organised and eager to develop their practice Values collaboration and structured support Is committed to inclusive teaching and high expectations Why This Is an Excellent ECT Role Proven ECT induction and mentoring programme Calm, well-managed classrooms Supportive and collaborative Humanities faculty Clear curriculum structure and shared resources Leadership that genuinely supports early career teachers Application If you are a Geography ECT seeking a January 2026 start in a school that prioritises support, structure and professional growth, we would be delighted to receive your CV.
