Our client is a leading UK-based energy and engineering consultancy specialising in the design and delivery of low-carbon energy infrastructure. They work across both the public and private sectors, supporting hospitals, universities, residential developments, commercial buildings and large-scale urban projects to decarbonise heat and power systems. Their work plays a key role in supporting the UK’s Net Zero ambitions through innovative, sustainable energy solutions. They are growing ay 20% YoY and have a team of 125 MEP Engineers across the UK.
The Role
Our client is seeking a Principal Mechanical Design Engineer to provide technical leadership across major low-carbon energy projects. This role is suited to an experienced engineer with deep technical expertise who can oversee design quality and support complex engineering solutions.
You will be responsible for the delivery and oversight of mechanical designs across district and communal heating systems, energy centres, trigeneration and heat pump projects, supporting schemes from early concept through to detailed design and tender stage.
Key Responsibilities
* Providing technical leadership on distributed energy and district heating projects
* Leading the interpretation and development of client requirements
* Overseeing calculations, equipment selection and process design
* Reviewing and approving schematics and detailed drawings
* Managing cost, risk and technical compliance within designs
* Resolving complex design and engineering issues
* Ensuring CDM compliance and robust internal governance
* Leading HAZOP studies and risk assessments
* Supporting and reviewing mechanical tender specifications
What You’ll Need
* HNC/HND in Mechanical Engineering, Building Services or similar (degree preferred)
* Extensive mechanical design experience within energy, building services or low-carbon infrastructure
* Strong technical background in systems such as CHP, heating networks, HVAC or renewable technologies
* Advanced AutoCAD capability
* Full UK manual driving licence
