Rate of Pay: £21.15 - £27.88 per hour
Summary:
We are looking for two skilled and experienced Revenues Officers to join the Debt Resolution Service within Southwark Council's Income Operations team. The successful candidates will play a key role in reducing arrears and positively influencing customer payment behaviour through effective case management, proactive communication, and fair but firm enforcement action.
You will handle a dedicated caseload, ensuring efficient recovery of Council Tax and other related debts by verifying liabilities, applying entitlements like exemptions or discounts, negotiating payment plans, and taking appropriate recovery action based on individual customer circumstances.
This is a hybrid role, requiring attendance at Southwark offices or in the surrounding area at least two days per week. You may also be required to make home visits depending on case needs.
Responsibilities:
* Manage day-to-day administration, billing, and recovery of Council Tax and related income.
* Make accurate determinations of liability and apply discounts/exemptions where appropriate.
* Contact customers via phone, letter, and in-person to discuss and negotiate repayment terms.
* Verify debts, check entitlements, and maintain accurate and up-to-date records.
* Liaise with internal departments, the Valuation Office Agency, and third-party recovery agents.
Requirements:
* Extensive hands-on experience with NEC (Northgate Revenues) system and thorough knowledge of Council Tax legislation.
* Proven ability in managing Council Tax recovery cases, including direct customer contact and enforcement action.
* Strong communication and negotiation skills with the ability to adapt your approach to diverse customer needs.
* Experience in interpreting financial data and legislation to guide decision-making.
* Good IT literacy, including the use of case management systems, MS Excel, and document processing tools.
* Ability to work independently, manage competing priorities, and meet collection targets.
