Job Overview
An exciting opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic doctor to join the current Obstetrics and Gynaecology team as a Trust Grade Registrar at Barts Health NHS Trust for twelve months, on a fixed-term contract. Interested individuals are invited to apply for appointment to start as soon as possible.
The post will be based at Whipps Cross University Hospital and while this is a non-training post, the successful candidate will work across the full range of specialist clinics and theatres and will be invited to take part in all the educational opportunities the department has to offer. There may be an opportunity to develop specialist interests including completion of SITMs if eligible.
Individuals will require full GMC Registration and should at least be post MRCOG part 1. These posts are aimed at UK or Overseas trainee obstetricians at ST3+ level or above, and for EU trained individuals with the appropriate level of clinical experience. The successful applicant would join a 16-person middle grade rota.

Main Duties of the Job
The Postholder will be responsible for the treatment and care of women across all our service locations. Daytime duties will include operating lists, gynaecology outpatients, antenatal clinics, Delivery Suite, and inpatients. As part of the medical team, the postholder will also be required to attend women in the A&E department as appropriate.
The rota will be full shift and includes ‘long day’ and night shifts covering both Obstetrics & Gynaecology.
In accordance with paragraph 110(d) of the Terms and Conditions of Service, practitioners will be prepared to perform duties in occasional circumstances without additional remuneration but may be granted time off in lieu at the discretion of the employing authority. Commitments arising in such circumstances are, however, exceptional and practitioners should not be required to undertake work of this kind for prolonged periods on a regular basis. All efforts will be made to ensure that work of this kind does not result in continuous hours of duty, which exceed the New Deal continuous hours of duty limits.

Detailed Job Description and Main Responsibilities
This post is not recognised for training; however, there is a comprehensive, well-structured training programme for all Registrar posts.
Departmental “Learning from Experience” teaching takes place every Friday morning. There are fortnightly perinatal morbidity meetings and fortnightly journal clubs. There is a weekly MDT CTG meeting. There are monthly audit meetings and a weekly hospital grand round. The post holder will also have the opportunity to be involved in the teaching of medical students and will be expected to be involved in audit and research related to their post.
Whipps Cross has an active Medical Education Centre with weekly clinical meetings and numerous postgraduate courses. IT support and training is available. There is Internet access and multimedia projection facilities.
There is the opportunity to take study leave and to attend outside conferences/courses as relevant, but these may need to be self-funded.
