Production Engineering Manager

💰 £60,000 per annum + Benefits
We are currently recruiting for a Production Engineering Manager to join a highly respected advanced manufacturing business operating within a technically demanding and quality-driven environment.
This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced engineering leader with a strong electronics manufacturing background who can combine technical expertise with effective people management. The successful candidate will be responsible for leading the Production Engineering function, driving manufacturing excellence, supporting new product introduction activities, and developing a high-performing engineering team.
The role requires a hands-on leader who can work closely with production, quality, operations, and supply chain teams to improve manufacturing performance, resolve technical challenges, and support business growth.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead, mentor, and develop the Production Engineering team, ensuring technical capability and performance objectives are achieved
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives across manufacturing processes, equipment, and production methods
- Support production activities by providing technical leadership and resolving complex manufacturing issues
- Oversee the introduction of new products into manufacturing, ensuring robust and repeatable production processes are established
- Develop and implement manufacturing processes, work instructions, and engineering standards
- Collaborate with design, quality, operations, and supply chain teams to improve product quality, efficiency, and delivery performance
- Ensure manufacturing processes are optimised to achieve cost, quality, and productivity targets
- Manage engineering projects from concept through to implementation
- Support capacity planning, resource allocation, and manufacturing strategy development
- Drive root cause investigations and corrective actions relating to production and process issues
- Identify opportunities for automation, process improvement, and operational efficiency
- Ensure compliance with quality, safety, and regulatory requirements
Essential Requirements
- Proven experience within a Production Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or Process Engineering leadership role
- Strong background within electronics manufacturing, electronic assemblies, PCB assembly, or electromechanical production environments
- Demonstrable experience leading and developing engineering teams within a manufacturing environment
- Strong technical understanding of manufacturing processes, production engineering principles, and continuous improvement methodologies
- Experience supporting New Product Introduction (NPI), Design for Manufacture (DFM), and process validation activities
- Proven ability to drive manufacturing improvements relating to quality, productivity, efficiency, and cost reduction
- Strong problem-solving and root cause analysis skills
- Experience working closely with production, quality, and operations teams to deliver engineering solutions
- Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills
- Ability to balance strategic planning with hands-on technical involvement when required
Desirable
- Degree qualified in Electronics Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related discipline
- Experience within highly regulated industries such as aerospace, defence, medical devices, or advanced electronics manufacturing
- Knowledge of Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, Kaizen, or other continuous improvement methodologies
- Experience managing capital equipment projects and manufacturing technology implementation
- Familiarity with ERP/MRP systems and production planning processes
