As a Yard Operative in Salfords, you will play a key role in supporting customers, maintaining the yard, and ensuring the efficient and safe handling of building materials. Working Hours This is a full-time, permanent role of 44.5 hours per week, Monday to Friday from 07:30 to 17:00, with alternate Saturdays from 08:00 to 12:00. Benefits for Yard Operatives Competitive salary, dependent on experience (£29,000 - £29,500) 25 days’ holiday plus Bank Holidays and an additional celebration day Pension Scheme, Death In Service Scheme, and Employee Assistance Programme Access to “My Reward” platform including Online GP Access and more Comprehensive training and strong career progression opportunities Main Responsibilities Provide excellent customer service by assisting with loading and unloading of goods for trade and retail customers Efficiently and safely handle, move, and store various building materials, timber, and fencing products Ensure the yard is kept clean, organised, and compliant with health & safety standards at all times Support stock checks, deliveries, and incoming goods processes using appropriate equipment Operate forklift trucks and other yard machinery responsibly (training provided if required) Identify and report any damaged or faulty stock or equipment Assist drivers with loading and vehicle checks, following procedure and safety guidance Maintain stock accuracy by following company systems and standards Collaborate with colleagues to deliver a positive and efficient team environment Actively contribute to continuous improvement of yard operations Skills & Experience – What We’re Looking For Previous experience working in a yard, builders’ merchant, warehouse, or similar environment (essential) Strong focus on health & safety protocols and safe manual handling practices Good organisational skills and attention to detail Clear and confident communication abilities Adaptable, reliable, and a positive team player Forklift licence (essential) Physically fit and comfortable working outdoors in all weather conditions Keen to learn and develop new skills Professional, respectful, and committed to excellent customer service
