Job Overview
£ Norfolk and Norwich University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust is seeking a Band 2 Pharmacy Assistant for our Pharmacy Aseptics Unit. The role focuses on the preparation and supply of chemotherapy and other treatments, working under the supervision of a Pharmacy Technician or pharmacist. Successful candidates will progress to Band 3 through an apprenticeship and on‑the‑job training programme.
Responsibilities
* Participate in the reconstitution and manufacture of cytotoxic drugs, including intrathecal chemotherapy, following standard operating procedures and G‑MP guidelines.
* Assemble components and consumables required for aseptic and radiopharmacy product preparation.
* Transfer sanitised components into the clean room and support the checking pharmacist by labelling and pouching products.
* Deliver urgent released products to wards or clinics as required.
* Carry out cleaning and general housekeeping tasks in the aseptic services unit and radiopharmacy.
* Perform environmental monitoring, prepare clean room isolators, conduct leak tests and support monitoring schedules.
* Maintain daily records of room air pressures, temperatures of rooms and fridges, and alert senior staff if values are out of limits.
* Collect telephone confirmations and screen calls and enquiries within the check room.
* Support the preparation and supply of chemotherapy and other treatments to patients under supervision.
* Work 37.5 hours per week, Monday to Friday, with a requirement to work one weekend day every ten weeks and three bank holidays annually.
* Participate in fortnightly teaching sessions and protected study time as part of the 12–18 month apprenticeship.
Required Skills and Experience
* Self‑motivated, able to work under pressure in a specialist and rapidly changing environment.
* Strong attention to detail and consistently high‑quality work.
* Proficiency with computer‑based systems and appropriate computer skills.
* Team‑working skills and willingness to support colleagues throughout the trust.
* Level 2 accredited pharmacy qualification (mainly preferred for starting at Band 3).
* Experience in pharmacy or a dispensing doctor setting is highly desirable.
