Job Description
We are currently seeking a dedicated Teaching Assistant to provide 1:1 support for a child with Autism in KS1 at our welcoming primary school in Denton.
The successful candidate will work closely with the class teacher and SENCO to deliver tailored support in line with the child’s EHCP, helping them to access the curriculum, develop independence, and build their social and communication skills in a safe and nurturing environment.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Provide consistent 1:1 support during lessons and structured activities
2. Implement SEN strategies to support focus, emotional regulation, and positive behaviour
3. Adapt learning materials to meet individual needs
4. Support the child’s social, emotional, and communication development
5. Monitor progress and provide feedback to teaching staff and SENCO
6. Work collaboratively with teachers, parents, and external professionals
7. Contribute to creating a positive, inclusive, and supportive classroom environment
Requirements:
8. Previous experience working in a school setting (essential)
9. Experience supporting children with SEN, particularly Autism (essential)
10. A patient, empathetic, and resilient approach to supporting children with additional needs
11. Strong communication and teamwork skills
12. Relevant qualifications (Level 2/3 Teaching Assistant or SEN) or equivalent classroom experience preferred
13. A good understanding of safeguarding and child protection procedures
