INTERNAL VACANCY

This role will be paid an AfC Band 7 Annex 21 for duration of training and preceptorship period.

A training opportunity has arisen within our hardworking, progressive, non-obstetric ultrasound department at The Shrewsbury and Telford NHS Hospitals Trust.

We are looking for a self-motivated and well organised candidate to join our friendly team of sonographers in this trainee post. The successful candidate must be committed to achieve the required practical and academic qualification in a CASE accredited PgDip in Medical ultrasound.

Training lists will include rotations through The Princess Royal Hospital, Telford (PRH), The Royal Shrewsbury Hospital (RSH) and the newly created Community Diagnostic Centre (CDC) in Telford.

As a trainee sonographer, you will learn extensive skills in a wide range of ultrasound examinations, construction of clinical reports and multidisciplinary team working to provide high quality, patient centred care.

Main duties of the job

The successful candidate will undertake a postgraduate diploma in medical ultrasound with Birmingham City university.

The post holder will attend lectures, tutorials and any other learning methods organised by BCU whilst also undertaking adequate private study to meet the academic standards set by the university. Clinical modules will include general medicine, gynaecology, DVT’s, negotiated small parts and carotids. Clinical training will be provided by the Trust across sites.

The successful candidate will work towards:

Development of skills required to perform a wide range of ultrasound examinations.
Leaning to construct and issue complex reports and instigate follow up if required in line with local trust protocols.
Skills in effective communication with patients and carers providing explanations and gaining informed consent promoting patient centred care.
Effective team working skills including being part of a multidisciplinary team.

On successful completion, the candidate will progress to a band 7 sonographer post within the Trust.

Failure to meet these requirements may result in termination of contract.

Clinical training is provided, and course fees paid.
