Offer description

We are seeking talented postdoctoral researchers to take up exciting Fellowship opportunities at the Mathematical Institute.

The Department is also advertising a similar fellowship scheme for Hooke Research Fellows in applied mathematics which can be found at: https://www.jobs.ox.ac.uk/ using vacancy ID: 182821.

Two Glasstone Fellowships are available and all applications for the Hooke and Titchmarsh Research Fellowships will automatically be considered for the Glasstone Fellowships. All applications for the Hooke and Titchmarsh Research Fellowships will automatically be considered for the Glasstone Fellowships. The Fellowships are full-time, and fixed-term for up to 36 months; applications for job shares or for part-time working to accommodate family circumstances will be considered.

Candidates should make one application which will automatically be considered for both the Hooke and Glasstone Fellowships. You will have research interests compatible with those of our current faculty in the algebra, combinatorics, geometry, history of mathematics, logic, number theory, functional analysis, stochastic analysis or topology groups, or the Oxford Centre for Nonlinear PDE (OxPDE); you must clearly state at the start of your supporting letter which of these research groups you feel is closest to your work. Successful applicants will be talented researchers, who have already produced excellent research during their PhD and in any postdoctoral positions. Securing a Fellowship will offer you the freedom to conduct your own research programme.

To aid the development of their academic profile, Fellows will be required to contribute up to three hours of teaching per week for the 24 weeks of each academic year to support the department, averaged over the period of the Fellowship to allow for extended visits elsewhere. (The exact nature of this teaching will be in accordance with departmental need as determined by the Head of Department, noting that the department may require you to teach in a college to provide cover for a member of faculty).

Candidates will be expected to have a completed doctorate or a completed doctoral dissertation submitted for examination by the advertised closing date for this position in mathematics or a related discipline (Candidates who have not yet been awarded their doctorate should provide the date they expect to submit their thesis in their supporting statement). They should also show evidence of independence and the ability to undertake research of the highest academic standard, hold an outstanding record of papers published in major international journals (commensurate with career stage), and have a realisable and relevant research plan which would enhance the research profile of the Mathematical Institute. Additional information about the posts, and a full list of selection criteria, are available in the job descriptions.

We proudly hold a departmental Athena SWAN Silver Award and an institutional Race Equality Charter Bronze Award.

Please direct informal enquiries to the Recruitment Coordinator (email: recruitment@maths.ox.ac.uk ), quoting vacancy reference 182818.

Applications for this vacancy are to be made online. To apply for this post and for further details, including a job description and selection criteria, please click on the link below:

We will not be accepting applications for the Mathematics Physics research group for this recruitment round.

Please note: Applicants are responsible for contacting two referees to send their reference letters directly to references@maths.ox.ac.uk by the closing date. Full details are contained in the job description.

Only applications received before 12.00 noon UK time on Friday 21 November 2025 can be considered.
