A freelance hybrid opportunity exists for a Design Manager to be responsible for the design delivery of non-infrastructure wastewater projects on framework. Your ability to demonstrate a thorough understanding of design delivery, design procurement, design management, design control, quality assurance, BIM to ISO 19650 and have a working knowledge of the NEC4 suite of contracts is sought. Your duties will include – Define the scope of design work and expected outputs. Review and challenge the design programme to ensure robustness. Oversee and coordinate the production of design deliverables. Manage and control any design changes. Evaluate design proposals to confirm they incorporate DfMA principles, achieve low-carbon solutions, and align with the client’s budget requirements. Organise, lead, and document regular design meetings covering briefing, progress updates, and coordination matters. Arrange and record sessions on buildability, carbon reduction, and DfMA. Coordinate and manage design reviews, technical assurance checks, and CDM compliance reviews. Implement and oversee the project’s BIM strategy. Provide support to the appointed principal designer under the framework. Stay up to date with relevant legislation, particularly health and safety requirements, applicable to the work being delivered. Represent the business professionally with both internal stakeholders and external organisations. Foster effective working relationships with the Design, Delivery, Commercial, and Employer Teams, ensuring clear communication. Work closely with the wider project team to inform procurement decisions for each package, collaborating with the Project Manager, Commercial Manager, Lead Design Consultant, MIECA lead, and supply chain partners. Follow the company’s governance standards for design management and project delivery. Requirements for this requirement includes - Degree/Diploma in Civil Engineering or a relevant engineering field. Actively working toward Chartered status. Strong communication and collaboration skills. Solid technical knowledge of water and wastewater processes and asset types. Awareness of commercial and contractual considerations to support desired outcomes. Competence in programme development and management. Experience and understanding of CDM Regulations (2015).
