Job overview

We are seeking a Deputy Matron to lead Gynaecology Emergency Department, Early Pregnancy Unit and the inpatient Ward Sunrise B team at Queens Hospital. This is a highly autonomous, full time role with day time working on a 7 day week rota basis.

You will be a strong and inspiring leader with proven relevant clinical and management skills, extensive acute gynaecology experience, and an in-depth understanding of acute early pregnancy and gynaecological conditions.

You will play a pivotal role in ensuring high standards of patient care, supporting and developing your team, and fostering a positive, values-driven culture. You will be required to work clinically as required and have a complete oversight of all of your designated service from safe staffing levels, budgetary control, staff management as well as provision of high quality and safety of care.

Main duties of the job

The Deputy Matron role is a senior nursing role providing leadership and direction to nursing staff in Acute Gynaecology (inpatient and ED) and Early Pregnancy services based on Sunrise B in Queen’s Hospital.

You will work with a particular focus on day-to-day management of all services on Sunrise B and deputise for Senior Matron. You will be responsible for ensuring provision of high quality, safe, well-governed, productive and cost-effective services which support the Trust in delivering its strategic objectives.

You will practice at an advanced level demonstrating with autonomy and decision-making. This role along with triumvirate colleagues will provide compassionate and inclusive leadership within depth focus on quality and safety. In addition, there will be joint responsibility and accountability with the triumvirate for delivering financial targets, efficiencies, workforce planning and service delivery to improve patient flow. Recognising and celebrating our workforce demographics the post holder will be responsible for ensuring the service line operates in an inclusive and transparent way.

Improving and maintaining staff experience within the service line is a key requirement for this role. You will be the professional accountable nursing leader across all services based on Sunrise B, ensuring appropriate structures are in place to support and inspire staff within service line, encouraging innovation, excellence and succession planning.

You will support the Matron, Head of Midwifery and others in providing operational and inspirational leadership that will create a caring, fair and open culture in line with our Trust values.

Education/ Qualifications

Essential criteria

1. Registered General Nurse/Midwife on the Nursing and Midwifery Council with significant experience at AFC B7 at least 3 years minimum
2. •Evidence of recent Gynaecology/Early Pregnancy Qualification completion

Desirable criteria

3. •Caring for Families Experiencing Perinatal Loss Level 7 CPD
4. •Master’s degree in nursing/midwifery or equivalent level of experience

Skills/ Abilities

5. •Advanced Clinical Skills- including venepuncture and cannulation
