This role offers opportunities to work on projects across multiple technical disciplines with clients nationwide, including HVDC, interconnectors, wind farms, substations, OHL, geotechnical solutions, building design, protection systems, LVAC, FEED, new builds, refurbishment works, and connection schemes. You will collaborate with a team on projects up to 400 kV, taking projects from concept through detailed design and supporting construction and energisation. Ideally, you will have experience with key T&D clients in the UK. You’ll also have the chance to work on projects focused on innovation, standardisation, technology assessment, and supplier collaboration. This is a growing team with development opportunities and a chance to contribute to the UK energy transition.
Responsibilities
* Develop scoping documentation and Main Connections & Protection Diagrams.
* Review Protection & Control designs developed by third parties.
* Specify P&C equipment and plant such as relays, CTs, and VTs.
* Produce detailed designs including AC/DC schematics.
* Conduct protection grading studies, produce relay files and settings.
* Review commissioning plans and attend commissioning panel meetings.
About You / Qualifications
* Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in electrical engineering or a related field.
* Experience working on Distribution Networks as a Protection & Control Design Engineer.
* Knowledge and experience with protection relays and relay panels, CT & VT sizing calculations, protection grading studies, and producing detailed AC/DC drawings.
* Familiarity with UK electrical practices and standards and an understanding/appreciation of CDM regulations.
* High regard for safety with demonstrable experience in risk mitigation.
* Ideally, experience working with National Grid processes.
