Job Description
Join ALTEN UK and work on cutting-edge engine control systems in the aerospace sector. You’ll take a technical leadership role, guiding a large engineering team while collaborating with our customer on complex safety-critical embedded systems challenges. This is a fantastic opportunity to work on innovative control systems and make an impact in a high-tech engineering environment.
Location: Derby (2 days on-site per week)
Experience Level: 10+ years (Senior / Lead)
Key Responsibilities:
* Lead and mentor a team of ~30 engineers in the development and management of software requirements for aerospace control systems
* Oversee requirements capture, flow-down, and verification using DOORS
* Ensure compliance with safety-critical standards such as DO-178C and ARP4754
* Collaborate with internal teams and stakeholders to maintain full system traceability
* Use DevOps tools to improve and streamline development processes
* Build strong technical relationships with the customer and internal teams
Qualifications
Required Skills:
* Strong background in Software Systems Engineering within aerospace or safety-critical domains
* Proven experience with DOORS and DevOps
* Working knowledge of DO-178C and ARP4754 standards
* Expertise in embedded software, control systems, and requirements management
* Excellent leadership, mentoring, and communication skills
Desirable Skills:
* Experience using MATLAB / Simulink for modelling or system analysis
* Familiarity with engine control systems
* Prior experience within aerospace or defence engineering roles.
Required Qualifications:
* A Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Software, Systems, Electronics, or Control Engineering, or related discipline
* OR a relevant technical military background with equivalent hands-on engineering experience
