Sense Education are looking for compassionate, dedicated Disability Support Workers to join a supportive, classroom‑based environment. This long‑term temporary role carries the potential to become permanent and offer a rewarding opportunity to make a real difference for pupils with additional needs, particularly those with severe or profound learning difficulties.
The Role
Assist in supporting pupils with Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs), primarily those with severe or profound learning needs. This involves helping pupils engage in classroom activities, adapting tasks as needed, and collaborating closely with teaching staff to ensure every child can participate, learn, and thrive.
The Ideal Person and Skills/Education Needed
Candidates with a background in support work, health or social care, or those transitioning into education are particularly welcome. For mainstream roles, a Teaching Assistant qualification is required; in this case, as it's a specialist setting, relevant qualifications in care, health and social care, social work, or related fields are necessary. Ideal candidates are patient, empathetic, team‑oriented, and passionate about supporting children with additional needs.
The School
This is a well-equipped special school with a warm, inclusive ethos and a strong commitment to meeting the individual needs of every pupil. The setting provides high-quality facilities to support pupils with a wide range of complex learning needs, including dedicated sensory spaces, therapy rooms, and accessible outdoor areas. Staff work collaboratively to provide a nurturing and structured environment where children can feel safe, confident, and ready to learn.
Hours
8.30am–3.30pm, Monday to Friday. Both full time and part time applications welcomed.

Safeguarding children is an integral part of what we do and we have a stringent safer recruitment process. We undertake checks on all the candidates we work with. As such we require a current Enhanced DBS Disclosure for everyone working in Schools. If you do not have a subscription to the DBS Update Service, you may be required to complete a new DBS application as part of the registration process. If you take a temporary role with Sense Education you will be paid on a weekly basis. All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position but long term. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available.
