Job Description

The role contributes to the innovation, engagement and impact agendas of the College of Arts by driving the outcomes of the Impact Acceleration Account (IAA). The role holder will work with researchers to develop their applications to the IAA, and take a key role in identifying further Innovation or Knowledge Exchange (KE) funding to achieve impact, including providing support to access the funds in cooperation with the Research Office. Working with the Knowledge Exchange & Innovation Manager, the role is responsible for the development of new partnerships through targeted programmes and will support the development of collaborative projects with non‑academic organisations resulting from the programmes.


Main Duties and Responsibilities

* Work closely with academic colleagues to identify and develop potential applications for Impact Acceleration Account (IAA) funding.
* Support and lead on targeted programmes of Innovation, Knowledge Exchange, engagement activity and communications with industry and other potential partners, in conjunction with the Innovation and KE Manager, for the purpose of achieving IAA outcomes.
* Establish new and effective relationships with organisations, relevant intermediaries and other innovation support organisations relevant to achieving IAA outcomes.
* Identify suitable sources of funding to build upon completed IAA projects towards achieving impact goals, including working with the Innovation and KE Manager, Impact Officer and Research Support Office to nurture the development and preparation of new project proposals.
* Provide on‑going guidance and support to in‑progress IAA projects.
* Prepare management reports on the progress of the implementation of the IAA and its intended outcomes.
* Work with other KE Associates and the College Research and Impact Support Teams to share best practice, learning and collaboration prospects.
* Work with the Impact and Research Support Administrator to ensure accurate records of all activity in relation to the IAA are maintained.


Essential Qualifications

* PhD and/or significant research experience.
* Good working knowledge of research relevant to the College of Arts.
* Understanding of Knowledge Exchange activities and how they can lead to impact.


Desirable Qualifications

* Good working knowledge of funding schemes to support Knowledge Exchange and Impact.
* Research experience in a subject relevant to the College of Arts.


Essential Skills

* Well‑developed advisory skills including the ability to motivate others.
* Excellent oral and written communication skills with the ability to communicate at all levels, including strong application/report writing skills.
* Evidence of the ability to understand different areas of research quickly and identify opportunities for Knowledge Exchange and impact.
* Ability to network effectively with high level of influencing and negotiating skills.
* Evidence of the ability to manage external relationships effectively.
* Proven creative, analytical and problem‑solving capabilities.
* Ability to work both independently and as a member of a team.
* Ability to balance multiple tasks, work flexibly and adapt to changing environments.
* Able to use Microsoft Office suite proficiently.


Desirable Skills

* Ability to set‑up, maintain and use databases.


Essential Experience

* Recent relevant research and Knowledge Exchange experience, or the ability to demonstrate relevant knowledge.
* Experience of writing funding proposals and project planning, and track record of supporting the development of successful proposals.
* Experience of working with academic and non‑academic partners.
* Experience of developing a new partnership leading to a formal project.


Desirable Experience

* Experience of a research/Knowledge Exchange funding environment (Scottish, UK, international).
* Business development experience in a research environment.
* Network of sector relevant non‑academic contacts.


Terms and Conditions

Salary will be Grade 7, £41,064 – £46,049 per annum.
This post is full‑time (35 hours per week) and fixed‑term until 31 March 2027 in the first instance.
