Milk Education is recruiting qualified Nursery Teaching Assistants for supply work across nurseries and early years settings in Wakefield and Kirklees.
We are also actively recruiting for a full-time Nursery Teaching Assistant position in Wakefield – perfect if you’re seeking both flexibility and long-term employment.
The 2025 EYFS statutory framework (effective at group & school-based Early Years settings including nurseries) requires specific qualifications and training – including Paediatric First Aid – so this advert is aimed at candidates who meet the updated criteria.

The Role
As a Nursery Teaching Assistant, you will:
1. Support children aged 0–5 years in line with the EYFS statutory framework
2. Promote learning through creative, age-appropriate activities
3. Support children’s social, emotional, and developmental progress
4. Assist with observations and assessments
5. Help maintain a safe, nurturing, and inclusive environment
6. Work as part of a team with nursery staff and key workers
7. Uphold safeguarding and health & safety policies
Essential Qualifications & Requirements
To be eligible under the EYFS statutory framework and count in staff-to-child ratios, you must have the following:
1️⃣ Qualification:
A full and relevant Level 2 or Level 3 Early Years / Childcare qualification recognized for EYFS staff ratios
This includes qualifications that meet the Early Years Practitioner (Level 2) or Early Years Educator (Level 3) criteria.
2️⃣ Paediatric First Aid:
A current Paediatric First Aid (PFA) certificate
Under EYFS, all staff with Level 2 or Level 3 qualifications must hold valid PFA training to be counted in staff-child ratios.
The certificate must be obtained within three months of starting work and renewed regularly (typically every three years).
3️⃣ Other Requirements:
Enhanced DBS (or willingness to apply)
Experience in a UK nursery or early years setting
Professional, patient, and positive approach
Right to work in the UK
Unqualified or untrained applicants (without recognised Early Years qualifications and PFA) cannot be included in EYFS staffing ratios and therefore cannot be placed.
