What you'll do:
* The Senior Mechanical Design Engineer will work within the Mechanical Design Engineering team at EATON Wimborne. The Design Engineering team is responsible for the development of mechanical designs and production of drawings across all product lines as MSD Wimborne.
* Design Engineers are allocated to projects as required and the role offers the opportunity to work on a wide variety of products. The role encompasses all aspects of the product lifecycle from support to bids, development of system requirements, concept design through to issue of production standard drawings.
* The Senior Mechanical Design Engineer will also provide support to production concessions and in-service issues where applicable.
Key Responsibilities:
* Produce concept designs for new products or product modifications to meet customer requirements whilst working to agreed timescales and budgets.
* Complete stress, performance, and tolerancing calculations in support of the designs.
* Utilize Design for Six Sigma and Design for Manufacture tools to optimize concept design/modifications.
* Present design solutions to peers and customers.
* Support supply chain by interpreting and responding to suppliers' technical inquiries during manufacture.
* Manage concessions and drawing change applications, presenting assessments to review boards.
* Provide status updates and participate in design/project team meetings.
* Report technical progress to Engineering and Programmes team leaders.
* Ensure design compliance to specifications and follow the Lifecycle Management Process.
* Ensure drawings comply with Eaton's design and configuration control processes.
* Manage outsource activities and resources using Eaton project management tools if applicable.
* Mentor junior design engineers and contribute to process and procedure development for continual improvement.
Qualifications:
* Engineering degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Aerospace, or equivalent experience.
* Minimum of 5 years in an Engineering Design & Development organization; aerospace experience preferred.
Skills:
* Proven technical leadership in design projects, managing multiple deliverables.
* Strong technical and analytical skills in Fluid Dynamics, Stress analysis, Electrical systems.
* Experience with CAD packages such as CREO, Catia, or SolidWorks.
* Knowledge of Geometrical Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T).
* Experience with Six Sigma tools and data management systems (PLM).
* Excellent communication, report writing, organizational skills, and ability to work within US ITAR legislation.
The successful candidate will work with US ITAR-controlled technology and goods. An additional screening process may be required as part of employment.
