Offer description

We're seeking a Health & Safety Advisor for an exciting UK-based project. The role will be primarily based in London at our Clients offices or, alternatively, from Aberdeen with regular visits to London. This is a contract position.

The UK Hydrogen and Carbon Capture and Storage projects delivery unit (UK H2 & CCS) will undertake the blue hydrogen and carbon capture and storage projects in the North East of the UK. The projects include building the carbon transport and storage business of the Northern Endurance Partnership (NEP), building the power generating station and carbon capture plant for Net Zero Teesside (NZT) power, building the blue hydrogen project, H2Teesside, and the onshore Humber Carbon Capture Pipeline Project, a 130 kilometre high‑pressure, dense phase carbon transportation pipeline and associated above‑ground infrastructure, designed to support decarbonization of the Humber Industrial Cluster.

The Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS) projects aim to develop a network to enable the decarbonization of a cluster of carbon‑intensive businesses on Humber by 2032 and to deliver the UK’s first zero‑carbon industrial cluster. NEP will be the UK’s first commercial‑scale, full‑chain CCS project and has the potential to capture up to 10 Mt of CO₂ emissions per annum—contributing significantly toward the UK reaching its net‑zero greenhouse gas emissions target by 2050.

The Role

The Health & Safety (H&S) Advisor will support across the offshore NEP scope, including the CO₂ export pipeline, subsea injection system and power and communication cable. Responsibilities include supporting detailed engineering activities with offshore EPC contractors, construction activities for the CO₂ export pipeline landfall at Teesside, subsequent offshore vessel construction campaigns, commissioning activities and start‑up.

Responsibilities

* Supporting the Lead HSE Advisor in implementing and monitoring HSE standards across contractor Execute activities.
* Reviewing contractor HSE plans, procedures and risk assessments to ensure alignment with project and contractual requirements.
* Engaging with contractors to promote agreed HSE standards, systems and safe working practices during the Execute phase.
* Identifying and managing higher‑hazard activities, ensuring controls are understood and applied in line with industry good practice.
* Promoting a strong safety culture on site, including open reporting, workforce engagement and speaking up.
* Supporting safe start‑up and early construction activities, including site inductions, toolbox talks and workforce briefings.
* Participating in site inspections, audits and safety observations, escalating issues and deviations to the Lead HSE Advisor as required.
* Supporting investigation of incidents, near misses and unsafe acts, and assisting with the tracking of corrective actions.
* Developing and maintaining positive working relationships with contractors and the workforce to encourage cooperation and compliance.
* Monitoring contractor activities to verify work is undertaken in accordance with agreed standards and legal requirements.
* Providing day‑to‑day HSE advice to site teams and contractors within its own level of competence, seeking guidance where necessary.

Qualifications – Expected

* Expect to work offshore and on construction sites as required by the project.
* Exposure to offshore or energy‑related projects (e.g., offshore oil & gas, offshore wind, subsea construction).
* Must hold offshore certification including survival.
* Experience supporting HSE activities on construction or offshore projects in a high‑hazard environment.
* Experience working with contractors and multiple disciplines on site.
* Working knowledge of health and safety management systems and risk assessment processes.
* Awareness of relevant UK H&S legislation and regulations applicable to offshore and/or construction activities.
* Good communication skills and ability to engage positively with site personnel and contractors.

Qualifications – Desirable

* Occupational Health and Safety qualification (or working towards), e.g., NEBOSH, IOSH.
* Membership (or working towards membership) of a relevant HSE professional body.
* Previous experience on large infrastructure or energy projects.
* Awareness of the Construction (Design and Management) Regulations 2015.
* Experience supporting audits, inspections or safety improvement initiatives.
