At Great Ormond Street Hospital for Children NHS Foundation Trust (GOSH) we have an exciting opportunity for an experienced Pharmacy Technician to join our Pharmacy Senior Leadership Team. This post will be responsible for the operational assurance of core pharmacy services including supply and logistics for medicines.

We are looking for a highly skilled, dynamic and enthusiastic individual to help support our journey as we look forward to the future with the aim to develop our existing workforce and services, as well as welcoming new members to the team.

GOSH Pharmacy provides medicines for supporting NHS, International & Private Care and Clinical Trials for our children. We have been on a transformation journey to modernise the pharmacy service and facilities to deliver expert care to our paediatric population.


Main duties of the job

Working with the senior leadership team, you will be directly supporting and leading on projects in updating of pharmacy (including support on creation of an independent Outpatient Pharmacy) and Trust infrastructure on automation of medicines supply (including provisions of Automated Dispensing Cabinets and Robotic Dispensing Systems).

You will have the opportunity to be involved in the New GOSH Children’s
Cancer Centre development, which will house the new Outpatient Pharmacy facility and help continue to drive improvement.

Leadership of our team of Pharmacists, Technicians and Assistants on the digital pathway for Pharmacy is key at future proofing our service in preparation for the coming new Children’s Cancer Centre.

You will be responsible for ensuring that procurement, dispensing, and supply activities comply with all current statutory obligations, including Good Distribution Practice (GDP).

The Pharmacy Operational Manager role leads the service supporting:

* Regulatory Compliance (GPhC/CQC/ MHRA/NHSE QA)
* Operational Leadership
* Innovative practice
* Quality Improvement ( EPIC Digital Closed loop systems)
* Senior Leadership and Management at an organisational level in respect to Pharmaceutical Operations
* Quality Management System Improvement
* Providing professional leadership and support to pharmacy technicians Trust-wide

Essential criteria

* Post graduate degree or equivalent experience in relevant subject
* BTEC and L3 NVQ Diploma in Pharmacy Services (QCF) qualification, or equivalent to gain registration with GPhC
* GPhC registered Pharmacy Technician
* Management qualification
* Accredited Checking Technician
* Substantial broad-based post qualification experience
* NVQ Internal Quality Assurer (IQA)


Desirable criteria

* Substantial broad-based post qualification experience within in the acute NHS sector


Experience/Knowledge


Essential criteria

* Good Dispensing Practice, Good Clinical Practice
* Knowledge of Pharmacy computer systems and their affective application
* National developments in Medicines Management
* Knowledge and experience of pharmacy stock control procedures including stock reconciliation and management of discrepancies
* Experience of financial requirements for payment of invoices and knowledge of Standing Financial Instructions
* Experience of managing hospital pharmacy patient services
* Experience of training and staff appraisal, management of poor performance and other disciplinary issues
* Experience as an Educational Programme Director
* Pharmaceutical care issues in Paediatrics
* Knowledge of medicine procurement for children
* Substantial operational management experience
* Identifies and implements best pharmacy practice in all relevant areas
* Substantial service management and leadership experience including working as part of a senior multidisciplinary team
* Significant experience of, and recognised expertise in, pharmacy patient services leadership and delivery


Desirable criteria

* Experience of strategic planning of pharmacy services and effective implementation of resultant plans
* Significant experience of, and recognised expertise in, medicines procurement and distribution leadership and delivery.
* Track record of effective use of IT to enhance service quality and efficiency
* Budget management experience and excellent knowledge of financial management principles


Skills/Abilities


Essential criteria

* Management and supervision of staff
* Excellent communication skills in both written and verbal formats
* Ability to work effectively under pressure whilst maintaining attention to detail and accuracy
* Able to lead, manage and develop a senior team
* Ability to analyse and critically appraise operational data
* Ability to utilise email, word processing, presentation and spreadsheet software packages in order to enhance work efficiency and to generate solutions to complex problems
* Ability to develop and implement risk management procedures at a directorate level


Desirable criteria

* Ability to implement strategies to meet Trust and pharmacy priorities
* Identifies novel ways of working to enhance services
