CAMHS Clinician – Neurodevelopmental Assessment

We are looking for enthusiastic and motivated individuals to join the Durham and Darlington Neurodevelopmental Pathway and to take part in assessment for neurodevelopmental disorders in children and young people age 0‑19. This is a new service and the individual will be joining at an exciting time of transformation.
Nursing candidates must have 18 months post‑qualifying experience including sign off of appropriate preceptorship or competency framework at the time of applying.
Main duties of the job
The successful candidate will work alongside other members of the multi‑disciplinary team and liaise with external agencies such as education and local authority. They will complete clinical observations, coordinate information and participate in diagnostic decision‑making as part of the MDT.
The post holder will receive regular supportive supervision and training opportunities.
Job responsibilities
The post holder will carry out observational assessments of children and young people in a variety of contexts such as clinic, home and school. The observations will be fed back to the wider MDT and inform the decision around the diagnosis of autism and/or ADHD.
Person Specification
Qualifications
- Current professional registration with appropriate body in healthcare or social work.
- Evidence of continuous professional development.
- Post‑graduate qualification in a relevant area (within agreed timescale).
- 18 months post‑qualifying experience including sign off of appropriate preceptorship or competency framework.
- Recognised sign‑off mentor (or equivalent) or must be achieved within agreed timescale, depending on work area.
- Key skills in literacy, numeracy and ITQ level 2 (or equivalent).
- Certificate in teaching & assessing in clinical practice as appropriate to own profession.
- Recognised qualification in a specific model of therapy (e.g. family therapy, CBT, etc.).
- Recognised training in facilitation of parenting groups.
Experience
- Quality improvement activities.
- Providing clinical supervision.
- Working in a multi‑disciplinary team.
- Working collaboratively with service users and their families/carers.
- Leadership or management experience.
- Significant experience working with children and young people with mental ill health in a community setting.
- Mentoring students on practice placement experience.
Knowledge
- Demonstrable knowledge to post‑graduate level of evidence‑based practice in caring for children and young people in the designated field.
- Understanding of relevant legislation (e.g. Mental Health Act, Mental Capacity Act).
- Care Programme Approach and its application in practice.
- Detailed understanding of safeguarding and its application in practice.
- Clinical risk assessment and management and its application in practice.
- Clinical governance and its application in practice.
- Research and development methodology.
- Understanding of psychological models of care and treatment.
- The Trust's quality improvement system (QIS).
