The role

Write a short description of your company, a boilerplate of the business, service or product that you offer. Include your business idea and the target audience. This text is primarily supposed to be descriptive, not selling.

CORE PURPOSE

We require an industrially minded, practical-led Science Teacher to deliver high-quality biology, chemistry, and physics instruction across Key Stage 4 and Key Stage 5. Operating within an innovative Studio School environment, the successful candidate will bridge the gap between abstract scientific theory and real-world commercial application, embedding advanced laboratory methodologies, environmental testing, and workplace-simulated projects to prepare pupils thoroughly for terminal GCSEs, technical qualifications, and direct entry into modern STEM, agricultural technology, and engineering sectors.

KEY TASKS & DAILY OPERATIONS

  • Applied Scientific Instruction: Plan and deliver rigorous science lessons, linking theoretical principles (such as chemical analysis, thermodynamics, and ecological systems) directly to contemporary industrial, agricultural, and environmental sectors.

  • Project-Based Learning Integration: Collaborate with regional engineering firms, environmental agencies, and tech startups to design live, workplace-simulated projects that require robust data collection, scientific testing, and formal reporting.

  • Rigorous Examination Preparation: Guide Key Stage 4 and Key Stage 5 cohorts systematically through the demands of terminal GCSE Combined/Separate Sciences and applied Level 3 vocational qualifications, focusing heavily on experimental design and data evaluation.

  • Technical Laboratory Management: Oversee a modern, workplace-simulated laboratory environment with flawless adherence to CLEAPSS health and safety standards, training pupils in industry-standard analytical techniques and proper equipment calibration.

  • Work-Readiness Pastoral Tutoring: Act as a specialist Personal Tutor to a cohort of pupils, guiding them through industry placements, scientific career pathways, higher apprenticeships, and the development of professional communication skills.

ENVIRONMENT & STRUCTURE

  • Studio School Framework: Operating as a specialised, small-scale academy for 14–19 year olds, our campus explicitly structures its curriculum around practical, work-based learning. The school maintains a compact pupil roll, ensuring every young person is known individually and supported by specialist staff.

  • Commercial Workplace Culture: The campus mirrors a professional engineering hub or research facility rather than a traditional secondary school. Pupils follow an extended working day, wear professional business attire, and manage their own independent project blocks, creating a mature, self-regulated atmosphere focused entirely on innovation and academic application.

PROFILE REQUIREMENTS

  • Qualifications: Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or a recognised equivalent (such as QTLS), paired with a strong honours degree in Biology, Chemistry, Physics, or a closely related applied science or engineering discipline.

  • Pedagogical Capability: A proven track record or clear capacity to deliver strong progress outcomes in terminal GCSE and technical science specifications through explicit, project-first pedagogy.

  • Industry Literacy: An understanding of contemporary STEM and environmental sectors, with the ability to instruct pupils in modern data handling and spreadsheet applications alongside pure scientific theory.

REGIONAL CONTEXT

  • Severn Loop Geography & Shropshire Agri-Tech Innovation: Nestled within the loop of the River Severn in the historic market town of Shrewsbury, the school capitalises on a unique regional identity where pioneering agricultural technology meets modern environmental engineering. The proximity to the Shropshire Hills provides an ideal landscape for field research, site-specific ecological projects, and direct collaboration with regional land-management and engineering firms.

  • Connectivity & Infrastructure: The campus is well-connected for commuting professionals across Shropshire and the West Midlands, utilising simple road connections via the A5, A49, and M54 motorway links. Shrewsbury railway station serves as a nearby transit hub, running regular Transport for Wales and West Midlands Railway services directly to Telford, Wolverhampton, Birmingham New Street, and Chester.
