Job overview

The purpose of this post is to Support learning and education across allied health professions (social work and play) Support identified work streams which may include:

o non-medical supervision of undergraduate/postgraduate students

o Leadership on the design/delivery of CPD programmes

You will be expected to deliver the core requirements of a GOSH Practice Educator. Promote high standards of care through the demonstration of education expertise. Lead in the creation of clinical areas that encourage practice development, audit practice and disseminate information on developments. Facilitate the creation of positive learning environments where staff development is encouraged and supported. Facilitate the induction, education and continuing professional development for all levels of allied health professional staff within the scope of the role. Work within the Education department, and Trust-wide, undertaking a key role in practice development to support service improvement and quality care for children, young people, and their families

Provide cross-cover for other members of the AHP Education Team and Clinical and Professional Education Team as required. Lead on their identified work stream as agreed by the Head of Education (Allied Health)






Main duties of the job

* · Be a highly visible role model, working alongside staff in practice.

* · Work to maintain own knowledge, skills, and clinical credibility, demonstrating high standards of practice and expertise in the care of children, young people, and their families

* Be prepared to work alongside colleagues in non- allied health professional roles to understand the requirements of different professions/areas
* · Work with education leads, managers, and supervisors to establish mechanisms for enhancing, developing, and assessing the quality of non-nursing placement learning

* Co-ordinate and deliver work-based learning and other CPD programmes as required
* Collect and analyse student data in line with NHS England Education Contract requirements
* Utilise, develop and review tools to audit and evaluate educational and professional practice and education programmes/materials
* Represent the AHP Education Team at Trust wide and external meetings and in response to Trust wide quality improvement initiatives
* Maintain a good working relationship with the academic partners, professional bodies, and organisations
* · Maintain own awareness of current clinical and professional issues

Academic/Professional qualification/Training


Essential criteria

* Be an allied healthcare professional registered with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC)


Desirable criteria

* Be educated within an AHP profession to degree level (or diploma with demonstratable additional equivalent experience)
* Teaching qualification (PG Certificate Clinical Education or equivalent)
* Postgraduate degree qualification
* Mentorship or supervisor qualification


Experience/Knowledge


Essential criteria

* Ability to prioritise workload and work to deadlines
* Ability to work autonomously as well as part of a team
* Understanding of current HCPC and professional body requirements of AHP pre-registration courses
* Understanding of inter-professional education
* Understanding of current workforce and education issues in allied health
* Experience of managing the poor performance of learners
* Experience of delivering education presentation in either a clinical or academic environment.


Desirable criteria

* Experience of implementing, monitoring, and reporting on education programmes
* Previous experience of research and audit
