Overview

Assistant Divisional Manager - Croydon Directorate. The post reports to the Divisional Manager and provides operational and strategic management support to assist in the development and modernisation of Moorfields’ services within the Directorate of Croydon.

Based predominantly at Croydon Hospital, the Assistant Divisional Manager is responsible for the effective development and operation of the Division’s services, and is part of the directorate leadership team working with the Matron and Clinical Director.


Responsibilities

* Deliver operational management, leadership, and support to ensure high quality, safe and effective patient services within available resources.
* Support the Division to deliver the Trust’s strategy and objectives, identifying opportunities for clinical and administrative innovation and modernisation.
* Ensure delivery of operational performance and strategic objectives, including the Trust waiting list (RTT), financial, HR management, Health and Safety management, risk, and clinical & quality governance.
* Lead on service development initiatives, prepare bids and business cases, monitor activity levels, and ensure targets are achieved.
* Collaborate with commissioning colleagues to ensure appropriate funding, analyzing services, including statistics, activity performance, audits, and report-writing.
* Project manage transformation and change projects to improve efficiency and quality, and work with the Trust’s operational team to support patient flow.
* Represent the Division at Trust meetings and external meetings as required; deputise for the Divisional Manager when needed.


People Management

* Directly line-manage senior administrator(s) within the Division, including recruitment and performance/quality standards.
* Monitor workforce indicators (sickness absence, turnover) and address issues with line managers and the HR team.
* Promote a high performance culture, provide guidance to staff who line-manage others, and analyse service activity to determine staffing requirements.
* Perform appraisals for directly line-managed staff and develop training plans as required.


Person specification

Education

* Graduate level qualification or equivalent experience
* Evidence of continued professional development within healthcare management

Desirable criteria

* Postgraduate management qualification

Experience

* Operational management experience in the NHS or similar environment
* Experience of effective financial management
* Experience working with NHS service delivery targets
* Experience/understanding of health and safety, risk management and clinical governance

Desirable

* Business planning experience

Skills

* Organisational and prioritisation skills to achieve department and organisational goals
* Ability to motivate and develop staff and work with teams and line reports
* Excellent presentation, verbal and written communication and IT skills
* Strong interpersonal skills to engage clinicians and managers
