ABOUT THE ROLE
As Head of Collection Strategy & Debt Sale, you will own and shape the end-to-end collections, recoveries, and debt sale strategy for a growing unsecured credit and credit-card portfolio.
This is a pivotal leadership role in a fintech environment where strong analytical capability, understanding of customer journeys, regulatory awareness, and a deep knowledge of consumer credit are essential. You will design strategies that balance commercial performance with customer fairness, regulatory compliance, and brand reputation.
You will work cross-functionally with Credit Risk, Operations, Data, Compliance, and Commercial teams to deliver strategies that enhance cure rates, drive operational efficiency, optimise loss performance, and ensure adherence to Consumer Duty expectations.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Collections & Recoveries Strategy
* Own the full strategy across early-stage, late-stage, and post-charge-off collections for credit card and consumer credit portfolios.
* Identify and define segmentation approaches that leverage data, behavioural insights, and credit performance to maximise cure rates and minimise losses.
* Continuously evaluate strategy performance, identifying improvements and testing new approaches (e.g., digital journeys, agent strategies, contact optimisation, payment plan design).
* Build structured MI to track effectiveness, customer outcomes, and operational performance.
Debt Sale & External Partner Management
* Lead the debt sale strategy end-to-end: pricing, partner management, portfolio selection, operational readiness, and due diligence.
* Establish and manage relationships with DCAs, debt purchasers, and legal partners, ensuring operational quality and strong performance.
* Implement robust governance, ensuring external partners treat customers fairly and comply with regulatory expectations.
Customer Experience & Regulatory Alignment
* Embed Consumer Duty and treat-customers-fairly principles into all collection strategies and customer journeys.
* Ensure all communications, contact strategies, and repayment arrangements reflect responsible lending practices.
* Work closely with Compliance and Risk to maintain alignment with FCA requirements and evolving regulatory expectations.
Data, Analytics & Continuous Improvement
* Use performance analytics and experimentation to drive strategy optimisation.
* Partner with Data & Tech teams to develop automated workflows, digital journeys, and scalable solutions.
* Explore new data sources, behavioural indicators, and modelling approaches to enhance collections outcomes.

Your Experience
* Significant experience overseeing collections, recoveries, and/or debt sale within credit card lending or wider unsecured consumer credit.
* Deep working knowledge of UK regulations including FCA, Consumer Duty, and conduct requirements.
* Strong understanding of credit life cycle performance, arrears segmentation, affordability, and vulnerability identification.
* Proven track record of delivering improvements through data, insight, and structured experimentation.
* Experience managing external collections partners or debt purchasers.
* Ability to design effective MI and tell a clear story through data.
* Familiarity with digital-first or fintech environments is highly advantageous.
