Role
An opportunity with the Clinical Investigations Unit (CIU) for a Healthcare Scientist Support Worker with Cardio/Respiratory Physiology. CIU works across three hospital sites — Furness General (FGH), Westmorland General (WGH) and Royal Lancaster (RLI). The successful applicant(s) will be required to work at these locations, with the post anticipated to be centred on the FGH site.
As a Healthcare Scientist Support Worker you will provide support to the clinical physiology team in areas such as Electrocardiograms (ECG), ambulatory ECGs and Blood Pressure monitoring, prolonged ECG monitoring (AliveCor and Digisticks), spirometry and FeNO and sleep studies.
Main duties of the job
* To work effectively and efficiently as part of a team within the Clinical Investigations Unit, ensuring a high quality service is provided to patients attending the department.
* Perform 12-lead ECGs in a variety of clinical settings and run ambulatory monitors, diagnostic equipment (AliveCor), BP, spirometry and FeNO and sleep clinics.
* Work alongside colleagues, clinicians, the patient and their relatives.
* To assist in the professional and operational delivery of the service within CIU, including shared allocation of work and training other staff.
Working for our organisation
We operate from three main hospitals (FGH in Barrow, the Royal Lancaster Infirmary (RLI), and Westmorland General Hospital (WGH) in Kendal) as well as community premises including Millom Hospital, Queen Victoria Hospital in Morecambe and Ulverston Community Health Centre.
FGH and RLI have a range of General Hospital services with Emergency Departments, Critical/Coronary Care units and various Consultant-led services. WGH provides general hospital services, an Urgent Treatment Centre and services to support non-life threatening conditions. All three main hospitals provide planned care including outpatients, diagnostics, therapies, day case and inpatient surgery, plus local outreach services and diagnostics.

Education and training
* GCSE Maths and English (grade 4/C or above)
* Basic education to NVQ 3 or BTEC Level 2
* Requirement to undertake SCST in ECG
* Requirement to take ARTP course for respiratory spirometry/FeNO and sleep
