To facilitate multidisciplinary patient care in the role of named nurse/team leader. To assess, plan, implement, and evaluate patient care. Regularly accept responsibility for the management and leadership of the ward or department in the absence of the senior nurse. Participate in supervising and teaching staff and students.
Service Delivery Responsibilities
* Demonstrate up-to-date knowledge of national and local professional issues and lead or facilitate their implementation locally.
* Undertake any other duties required by the line manager appropriate to the grade and relevant to the post.
* Represent the views of patients, carers, and staff.
* Implement the local and national Clinical Governance agenda.

Clinical Responsibilities
* Support the ward or department Sister/Charge Nurse and their deputy in their roles.
* Practise as a named nurse or team leader, managing a defined caseload of patients.
* Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate patient care.
* Manage complaints and report to the Matron in the absence of the Sister/Charge Nurse.
* Promote collaborative working and effective communication within the multidisciplinary team.
* Ensure timely management of clinical incidents and near misses, reporting actions taken.
* Develop links with care agencies for seamless care delivery.
* Promote health and wellness through education of patients, relatives, carers, and staff.
* Lead the development and implementation of innovative practices to enhance patient care.
* Maintain patient confidentiality at all times.
* Minimize hazards and report any safety concerns, adhering to safe systems of work.
* Undertake risk assessments and implement measures to reduce risks, reporting deficiencies.
* Promote awareness and attend training on child and adult protection policies.
Budget and People Management Responsibilities
* Participate in the effective use of the ward or department's budget.
* Deputise for the Sister/Charge Nurse in their absence.
* Manage own time and delegate effectively to ensure high-quality patient care.
* Act as preceptor, mentor, and clinical supervisor for junior staff and students.
* Contribute to setting personal and professional development objectives for staff.
