Job description

The aviation industry's contribution to greenhouse gas emissions is projected to continue to grow in the coming decades. As a drop-in fuel, which can be used in existing aircraft, sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) is one of the most effective ways to start to decarbonise flights.

The UK SAF Mandate obliges fuel suppliers to mix an increasing amount of SAF into their fuel. Whilst the mandate can be met with imported SAF, global demand for this fuel is likely to be high, and it would be prudent for there to be a supply of UK-produced SAF. A key barrier to unlocking finance for UK SAF projects and developing a domestic SAF sector is revenue certainty. The Government is introducing a revenue certainty mechanism to reduce this risk.

This is a pivotal moment to get involved in shaping the future of clean aviation. Join us and help drive forward innovative policy that supports UK industry and delivers real climate impact.

Your responsibilities will include, but aren't limited to:

* Working closely with the SAF Revenue Certainty Mechanism Division and across Government to support the policy development of the SAF revenue certainty mechanism, developing detailed knowledge of the subject area and understanding of who to call on for advice.
* With your knowledge and understanding of this work area, you will lead on providing sound, evidence-based advice on a range of topics relating to SAF delivery and legislation development.
* Commissioning and overseeing expert internal and external advice including legal and analytical as necessary. Using sound judgement and influencing and persuasion skills to resolve problems and reach solutions.
* Responsible for scrutinising and challenging evidence to provide considered advice to Ministers.
* Manage own workstreams with autonomy, identifying issues and proposing innovative solutions. Take a key role in project management across all workstreams in the team.
* Build strong relationships with a range of stakeholders including representing the team in engagement and seminars across industry and environmental interests – seeking input and evidence to inform policies and securing buy-in to the final proposals.

For further information on the role, please read the role profile. Please note that the role profile is for information purposes only - whilst all elements are relevant to the role, they may not all be assessed during the recruitment process. This job advert will detail exactly what will be assessed during the recruitment process.
