Job Description
Purpose
Functional and daily management of a small team of passive safety test engineers.
Responsibilities
* Manage a team of passive safety test engineers engaged in full scale crash, engineering systems and sled testing
* Safe on time delivery of tests and associated deliverables in a right first time environment
* The production of budgetary proposal with costing and engineering solutions
* Engineering function delivered within budgetry expectation
* Liaise with customers and witnessing authorities to deliver homologation testing
* Test planning and resource allocation
* Maintain internal quality standards and external accreditations (includes ISO 17025)
* Identify capital expenditure needs and draft supporting business cases
* Identify future training needs and maintain training records
* Support commercial and business development activities associated with the passive safety function
* Represent UTAC in passive safety working groups
* Project and programme management
* Maintain and cultivate relationships with OEM passive safety customers
* Monitor future legalisation and future passive safety trends and derive investment plans
Qualifications
Qualifications
* Engineering graduate or able to demonstrate equivalent experience in a product test or laboratory environment
Experience
* Ideally passive safety or vehicle engineering test experience in an OEM (Auto or Aero)
* Demonstrable team leadership experience in a test or engineering environment
* Energetic and motivated to deliver in challenging customer facing situations
* Prepared to work extended hours when required
* Ability to react to a changing workload
Skills
* Applied first principles understanding of engineering dynamics
* Programme management with multiple stack holders and high value complex test assets
* Familiar with high speed data capture techniques and hardware
* Data analysis and manipulation (Diadem, X-Crash, Cam2Measure advantageous)
* CAD (Solidworks or similar) advantageous
* Good communications skills both oral and written.
* Confident when dealing directly with customers
* Ability to work well in a team.
* Attention to detail.
* Problem solving / lateral thinking.
* Professional presentation with customer facing communication.
* Good verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills.

* Flexibility to support test activity both off-site and outside of normal working hours.
* Flexibility to travel inside and outside UK as and when required.
* Full UK driving license & own transport (UTAC Millbrook is not easily assessable via public transport).
* Willing to undergo a Criminal Records check and Security Vetting
* NOTE: This position be will based on site but will require periods of working at other sites in the UK.
