Job Summary
Purpose of Role
To contribute to the strong governance of Northern Ireland Hospice, working at a strategic level to ensure that the organisation meets its charitable objectives. To deliver the duties and responsibilities of a Company Director as set out in the Companies Act(s) and those of a Trustee, as required by law and the Charity Commission for Northern Ireland.
Experience Required
Experience of working at a senior management or governance level. This can be in the voluntary, public or private sectors.
Experience of operating at a strategic level, including strategic planning and development.
Experience in executive level financial decision making and have a high degree of financial acumen.
Expertise in customer relationship management and knowledge of digital development and digital transformation strategies.
Legal Expertise Skills & Experience Required
Professional legal qualification
Sound understanding of NI Law
3+ years minimum post qualification experience as solicitor, barrister or in house counsel
Understand or have a keen interest in the charity sector and its regulatory environment
Key Responsibilities include:
Advising Board on legal and regulatory responsibilities, ensuring effective governance and compliance with the Charity Commission, other relevant legislation to protect the interests of NI Hospice.
Translating complex legal concepts into clear and actional advice for non-legal specialists.
Maintaining oversight of key legal risks and advising on effective mitigation strategies.
Developing and strengthening key governing documents to ensure they are robust and legally sound.
Providing a legal perspective on strategic planning across the organisation and supporting informed decision making.
