As we open recruitment for this crucial role, we also take a moment to express our heartfelt thanks to our outgoing Chair, Mike Wilmot, who will be stepping down after an exceptional ten years of service to the Trust. Under Mike’s leadership, the Trust and the theatre’s operating company, which is a wholly owned subsidiary, have undergone a hugely positive programme of change. His steady stewardship, thoughtful guidance and deep commitment to the theatre have strengthened the organisation, supported staff through times of challenge, and helped secure the brighter, bolder future we are now building toward. Mike’s contribution has been transformative, and Trustees and the Executive Team extend their warmest gratitude for his decade of dedication. An Exciting Time to Join Us This is an extraordinarily exciting point in the theatre’s journey. Several key development projects are already underway, each designed to protect, restore and enhance the beautiful Grade I listed Victorian building whilst expanding our artistic and community impact. The incoming Chair will play a pivotal role in this next phase, helping to shape strategic direction, champion our vision and ensure the Trust continues to thrive. About The Role The Chair of the Board of Trustees is a voluntary role that carries significant influence, purpose and reward. The successful candidate will: Provide support, guidance and mentorship to the Chief Executive and Senior Leadership Team Lead a committed Board in delivering effective governance Represent and advocate for the Tyne Theatre & Opera House with key stakeholders at local, national and international levels Uphold the charitable objectives of the Trust and promote good stewardship of our heritage building This role requires attendance at four Board meetings per year, alongside approximately 8 –10 hours per month for meetings with the CEO, stakeholder engagement, and ongoing correspondence.
