Essential Qualifications
Essential criteria
1. Full GMC registration Fellowship / Membership of the Royal College of Anaesthetists or completed a period of education & training in anaesthesia recognised by PMETB Completion of CCT training in Anaesthesia. Applicants may be interviewed within 6 months of anticipated achievement of CCT, or suitable equivalents. Before applicants are put forward for shortlisting checks will be made to ensure they meet the essential criteria listed above
Desirable criteria
2. Previous experience working as a Consultant or ST7 equiv level
3. Postgraduate thesis/diploma Post CCT additional clinical experience
Clinical Training & Experience
Essential criteria
4. Knowledge commensurate with the above qualifications and the ability to offer expert opinion on range of problems in both emergency and elective aspects of patients. Ability to take full and independent responsibility for clinical care of patients in theatre and in remote settings including transfers. Ability to perform within a multidisciplinary team.
Desirable criteria
5. Relevant subspecialty higher or advanced level training in perioperative medicine, vascular, or ophthalmic anaesthesia.
Service Quality
Essential criteria
6. Demonstrable interest in risk management and patient safety. Evidence of interest in peri-operative care with aim of optimising patient pathway. Evidence of interest in quality assurance. Evidence of successful involvement in quality improvement work. Interest in developing the service aligned to the needs of our patients.
Desirable criteria
7. Project led a service development programme from research to implementation
Management & Administration
Essential criteria
8. Ability to advise on the effective organisation of an anaesthetic service. The ability to manage and lead a multidisciplinary team. Evidence of participation in Appraisal/Revalidation Evidence of good self-organisational skills and timekeeping.
Desirable criteria
9. Attendance to a leadership or management course
Teaching Experience
Essential criteria
10. Experience of teaching clinical skills to undergraduates and postgraduates. Ability to teach practical skills in anaesthesia.
Desirable criteria
11. Relevant Teaching Qualification
Research & Audit
Essential criteria
12. Ability to apply research outcomes to clinical problems. Evidence of having undertaken projects in clinical audit. Evidence of successful audited change management. Have a full understanding and have participated in clinical trials relevant to the speciality. Ability to critically appraise published studies.
Desirable criteria
13. Desirable- Publications in specialist Anaesthetic or Critical Care journals.
