About the Role
We are seeking an experienced Business Analyst (Finance) to support a local council's education finance team, with a specific focus on Schools Finance and the Dedicated Schools Grant (DSG). This role will play a key part in analysing, reviewing, and supporting schools that currently have a DSG deficit, providing insight, challenge, and recommendations to help address financial pressures.
Key Responsibilities
1. Analyse school financial data, with a particular focus on DSG allocations, spending, and deficit positions.
2. Support forecasting and modelling to understand future financial risks and pressures within the DSG.
3. Produce clear, data‑driven reports and insights for senior stakeholders.
4. Work closely with schools, finance colleagues, and education leads to review budgets and recovery plans.
5. Contribute to strategic discussions about long‑term DSG sustainability and deficit reduction.
6. Support process improvements and strengthen financial controls across the schools finance function.
About You
7. Proven experience in Schools Finance within a local authority or education setting.
8. Strong understanding of the Dedicated Schools Grant (DSG), including its blocks, funding methodology, and deficit recovery approaches.
9. Excellent analytical skills, with the ability to interpret complex financial data and present findings clearly.
10. Confidence engaging with stakeholders at all levels, including school leaders.
11. Ability to work autonomously in a fast‑paced, public sector environment.
