Position overview
The proof press specialist is responsible for producing off‑line conventional proof cans that translate our customers’ design brief into a printable target, reproducible by our operations at full line speed. During customer‑attended proofing sessions, this role guides the customer using technical expertise of the can printing process to make educated decisions, enabling Ball operations to deliver on their production KPI’s.
The role utilises our colour‑management processes, performs quality‑control checks, and provides expert guidance on ink and varnish to support the organisation’s goals of delivering superior printed materials while minimising downtime and fostering continuous improvement.
Key responsibilities
* Accountable for operation of the off‑line can proofing press equipment in line with all Ball EHS standards.
* Responsible for production of an off‑line can proof that best translates the customer’s artwork and meets all Ball standards for full‑speed can printing.
* Set the standard for the Ball EMEA off‑line can proofing press.
* Maintain the off‑line can proofing press.
* Make improvements to the manual press to drive innovation in process & material, improving process efficiency & accuracy.
* Host the customer (should they wish to be on site), taking care of all their needs during the visit and representing Ball.
* Deliver on the proofing program and organise materials to meet all requirements.
* Produce off‑line can proofs for the innovation team, providing technical insight into the possibility of repeating the proof at high‑speed production lines.
* Familiar with the differences between conventional & digital proofing, and capable of producing digital proofs representing conventional output.
* Support development of Ball’s strategy to enable digital proofs as a target for conventional high‑speed production.
* Operate the Ball Graphics Management system, ensuring all documentation & reporting on proofing sessions is kept up to date.
* Govern internal escalation in case of process deviation, maintaining structure in the proofing process to maximise output.
What are we looking for?
* Degree in Technical Engineering or Graphic Engineering & Design
* Experience working as a decorator
* Experience in machine engineering
* Experience in a manufacturing environment
* Experience in a customer‑focused environment
* Graphics knowledge and IT literacy (use of IT systems)
