Engineering Manager – Sizewell C

As part of the Civil Works Alliance (CWA), you will support the building of Sizewell C, a 3.2‑gigawatt low‑carbon power station to generate electricity for around 6 million homes. The role will be within the Enabling and Earthwork Section and will support construction from the Early Construction Works (ECI) phase to the construction phase, commencing 2024.
Responsibilities
Lead, manage and coordinate construction engineering for the earthworks portion, focusing on methods engineering, contractor’s design integration, digital engineering and right‑first‑time construction engineering.
* Define methods alongside design development to ensure works are safe, sustainable and economical.
* Develop technical solutions that consider site constraints, including legal constraints defined in the DCO.
* Understand consenting requirements and liaise with the client and external bodies for timely submission and approval of consents.
* Define and manage temporary works designs and obtain all necessary approvals.
* Define requirements jointly with SZC designers for any contractor design of the permanent works, develop scope and RACI documents, and source and manage contractor design resources.
* Transfer lessons learned from HPC (First of a Kind) to SZC (Next of a Kind) and embed these into the project.
* Incorporate assurance requirements of the regulated nuclear environment into the definition of the works, programme and price.
* Oversee site construction engineering, quality, materials testing and surveying.
Qualifications & Experience
Essential
* Design management experience.
* Construction experience, including HSQE.
* Good understanding of geotechnical engineering and soil behaviour.
* Good communication skills.
* Project management skills (planning, scope definition).
* Good digital skills, including BIM.
* Good self‑discipline and time management.
* Problem‑solving skills and creative thinking.
* Teamwork.
Desirable
* Experience in earthworks.
* Temporary works experience.
* Some knowledge of industrial health and safety legislation and personal safety.
* Basic CAD skills.
* Civil engineering degree or equivalent.
* Desirable: Chartered or working towards chartership (next 1‑2 years).
