The successful candidate will be expected to demonstrate an active interest in the management of high-risk women with early pregnancy and acute gynaecology problems, as well as women requiring termination. It is expected that the individual will provide a unified multidisciplinary approach to the care of women with early pregnancy and acute gynaecology issues.
There will be dedicated time for teaching medical students (tutorials, ward, clinic, and theatre-based learning) and for postgraduate teaching and training (Friday postgraduate afternoons are statutory sessions for all staff). Regular audits will be required, along with supervision for Quality Improvement Projects (QIP) undertaken by trainees.
The role involves involvement in general management and committee work for the hospital. The department holds weekly educational meetings reviewing cases and audits. The Directorate conducts monthly Consultant meetings, Gynaecology and Perinatal morbidity and mortality meetings, and Maternity Forum.
Roles include:
1. Provide a consultant-led service in Gynaecology Oncology (Rapid Access) clinics, theatres, Outpatient Hysteroscopy clinics, and the Early Pregnancy unit. Participate in multidisciplinary meetings and contribute to the on-call rota.
2. Develop and document pathways for patients within Oncology services, in line with Trust governance policies.
3. Collaborate with the multidisciplinary team to provide senior leadership in obstetric and gynaecological services at West Middlesex Hospital.
4. Contribute to the resident night on-call rota.
5. Provide senior leadership in managing high-risk patients antenatally, intrapartum, and postpartum, in close cooperation with other specialties.
6. Deliver general gynaecology services in outpatient clinics, theatres, and emergency care.
7. Facilitate triage of emergency gynaecology operations to avoid out-of-hours surgeries whenever feasible, following NCEPOD recommendations.
8. Attend theatre cases to perform surgeries unless a trainee is deemed competent to perform under indirect supervision.
9. Assess and manage deteriorating elective post-operative gynaecology patients.
10. Participate in obstetric on-call commitments as part of the departmental rota.
11. Support obstetric colleagues with advice and surgical assistance, e.g., in cases of major obstetric haemorrhage.
12. Assist the Emergency Surgical Consultant with gynaecological opinions and ultrasound assessments.
